    List of drives to be indexed is not created correctly, cannot generate indexing properly

    I use windows 10I have multiple drives. When I try to re-index, ticked drives are not displayed correctly in the index list. If I tick C, D will appear in the index list. etc In the "serach" mask, I cannot delete several drives from the "folders to be excluded" list. How can I create the indexing from scratch, including the parameters. Stop/start and delete the index file is not enough. Where are indexing parameters stored?

    :)

    Hi Franz. I'm Greg, 10 years awarded Windows MVP, here to help you.

    Are you following this procedure to add or remove drives to/from the index?

    https://www.howtogeek.com/272158/how-to-choose-...

    If so and it still doesn't work then 1) Try all of these fixes to get WIndows 10 Search working properly:

    https://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/wind...

    https://www.techradar.com/how-to/how-to-fix-sea...

    http://www.askvg.com/fix-windows-search-crashes...

    https://superuser.com/questions/1218170/incorre...

    2) Make sure all locations you want searched are included following this guide:

    https://www.howtogeek.com/272158/how-to-choose-...

    3) Then rebuild the Search Index to see if it fixes it:

    https://www.techjunkie.com/how-to-solve-windows...

    4) Usually one of the above will do it, but if not go over this checklist to make sure the install is set up correctly, optimized for best performance, and any needed repairs get done: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...

    Start with Step 4 to turn off Startup freeloaders which can conflict and cause issues, then Step 7 to check for infection the most thorough way, then step 10 to check for damaged System Files, and also Step 16 to test a new Local Admin account. Then continue with the other steps to go over your install most thoroughly.

    5) If nothing else works then do a Repair Install, by installing Media Creation Tool, open tool and choose to Upgrade Now. This reinstalls Windows while keeping files, programs and most settings in place, and is also the most stable method to advance to the latest version. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/m...

    I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and keep me posted. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

    Search Not Indexing Optical Drive

    Thanks,

    • When you mentioned D Drive, are you pertaining to a partition or a separate external drive? - D Drive = Solid State Drive; 1 of 2 internal drives (the other being an optical drive);
    • Were you able to check if indexing was already completed? - Indexing completed on each attempt of rectification;
    • In the meantime, we suggest that you run the Search and Indexing troubleshooter - Done prior to posting; useless! It does not find any problems.
