I'm looking forward to the new version, I like Edge, OK there have been problems on this machine using it and I've had freezes and such but I keep going back to it after using Chrome and Firefox every so often. I had problems with IE on here as well but instead of sniping about it or having a go at others on their choice of browser I'll just carry on, if one doesn't work change to another for a while, there's always the chance it's my fault so I'll learn from my mistakes and move on.

Nothing is ever perfect and I wouldn't want it to be how would we learn and improve things if they were perfect to start with, it'd be very boring if they were. *Tongue

Agreed; why does anyone feel they have to use (and defend) only one browser? When customers ask me which one to use I say whichever one renders your websites best. I mostly use Firefox, but I regularly switch to Chrome or IE when a site doesn't work properly in Firefox. I will be revisiting Edge too once the LastPass extension becomes available.

I have been using Edge as my daily browser when I'm on my Insider build and Pale Moon when I'm using the RTM build. I can truthfully say that even with the improvements to Edge I still prefer Pale Moon over Edge.

I pretty much do the same, I use Firefox and use Edge when a website will not render or work properly in Firefox, though I'm finding fewer and fewer sites that wont render or work properly in Firefox.

If Edge ever gets up to the usability of Firefox, and can use similar extensions then I will consider using it as my main browser, simply because I like a clean lean system and want as few browsers installed as possible.

  7. Been using Edge almost exclusively since upgrading to 10. Sung its praises to one and all, but after the last update I've been having problems with it freezing. A lot. The "last update" thing is just an approximation but around that time anyway. I still use it about half the time as it is a decent browser, but I don't even try MSN anymore while using it. Cannot finish even a 1 page article without freezing. When I switch to either F.F. , Avant, I.E., or even Opera I have no such problems. Yes I have 5 browsers these days *Redface.

    Living on the (Microsoft) Edge

After every new build is released, I make it a point to give Edge a good try, but it still not something I could use as my daily driver. I find it very laggy/freezy - click to initiate some action, and not only does it take many seconds for anything to happpen, but the whole thing is unresponsive while you wait.

The other problem I have with Edge is that, because it is a "Modern" app (I refuse to type out 'Trusted Windows Store App', if that's even what they're called this week)(Whoops! I just did!) it uses the system fonts for menus and such that can't be increased in size. My eyes are somewhat messed up due to a medical misadventure, and I like to boost font sizes at my discretion. With old-school win32 apps this is no problem to do in the Settings.

I still prefer Firefox over the lot of 'em, and I've tried them all. Fast, renders well, some nice extensions, and I've got a massive and well-organized bookmark collection that nothing really imports properly, though Chrome comes close. Things sync among my systems without issues, and there are some seemingly minor UI niceties in FF that make it just the most usable browser out there... FOR ME! I do not insist that everyone, or indeed anyone, share my opinion ;-)

This is not something I've experienced with Edge.

First, they're called Universal Apps now. Second, why don't you just increase your DPI settings? Then all system fonts will be larger, not just in Edge?

There are several ways in which you can safely experiment with insider builds on your current PC without taking risks.

The first is to setup Hyper-V if you have the Pro edition (which your signature indicates you do). Or you could use VMWare workstation or Oracle's VirtualBox. Regardless, this creates an isolated environment in which to do this.

The second is to boot the insider edition from a VHD, which is a "disk in a file" technology. There are tutorials by Kari on how to do both of these on the site.

I didn't think all "Store" apps were Universal yet.

I use a combo of increased DPI and adjusting individual font sizes to get the results I find comfortable. Just scaling up the DPI too much causes other problems...

In any case, some people seem to have no problems with Edge, but others have the problems I mentioned.

The reason I am a tester is because I have to know. I am the one most of my friends and others come to when they have a problem with their PCs, and believe me Windows 10 has made it a different game. I don't hate Windows 10, but it is by no means my preferred choice, and I say so.

I am most disgusted with the way it is introduced to people (usually without their knowledge). I have heard 'oh it was just there, I didn't do anything' so many times, I feel like the girl from the Exorcist, making my head spin around.

But let us talk specifically about Edge. It is only usable on Windows 10, no where else. Good god even Safari can be used on a Windows machine. If that doesn't give reason enough right there to make one wonder. I can go on, but there are so many areas it is lacking, I would have to post a thesis. Don't blame me or shoot the messenger, look at the numbers, even the majority of Windows 10 users, don't like Edge and don't use it.

I have to also say something about Edge. I just don't understand why MS is so behind when it comes to the simple bells and whistles in browsers. If they want to make some difference in the new "Edge" then at least be on par with the other browsers to start with. Once again in the latest preview release Edge only gives you the option to open a tab with "a blank page" or "suggested sites". Come on please put the option there to at least open in home page. Seriously! That's why many of us are not wanting the go full scale into the new browser "Edge".
I can just picture a auto company introducing a new car with the windows in the drivers side and passenger side to be power windows but the ones in the back don't work. But oh the car starts when you sit in the seat. That 's new! lmao. Come on MS.

    cheers

Bookmark your home page and 'wheel click' it to open in a new tab.
(Only thing that ticks me off is, it won't switch to the new tab immediately as in IE!) *Sad
Mouse focus and input sucks as well on Edge!
    For example:
If you have a URL on the 'Clipboard' and you have the Edge Settings Panel open, it takes 3 clicks to paste your 'clip'; one click lets the Settings Panel disappear, second click clears the address bar, third click you finally get to paste your clip! *Sad

Apple discontinued Safari for Windows a number of years ago. The last version is so old, it predates HTML5 and many other things. The last Safari for Windows is 5.1.7 (the current version is 9.1 with 10.0 in beta).

Chrome didn't have all the bells and whistles with it's first version either. Software doesn't spring forth fully mature out of the gate. That's just not how it works. For anyone. Edge is the first new browser to hit the market since Chrome, and that's been almost 10 years.

I think most people forget how bad things are when they are first released.
