Local password change does not take effect

I was previously using Microsoft account login on Windows 10, and switched to a local login because the MS password rules did not accept a passphrase. This worked fine, and I was able to long with my new passphrase.

Some time later I tried to change my password, I believe with Ctrl+Alt+Del -> change password. This succeeded, but when I go to login it still will only take my *old* password, not my new one. However, when I try to change the password now I'm required to enter the *new* password in the "Old password" box. It appears that there's two different local passwords in use somehow?!?

    This is build 19041.746

    :)

    local password

    Hi AJ,

In order to sign in with your local password, you need to set your computer to sign in with your local account instead of your Microsoft account. Follow these steps:

    • Open Settings > Accounts > Your account.
    • In the right pane, click the option Sign in with a local account instead.
    • To confirm that you authorize the changes, enter the password for your Microsoft account, then hit
      Next.
    • On the Switch to a local account page, input your local user name and password.
    • Click Next to sign out from your Microsoft account and sign back in using your local account.

Let us know if you need further help.

    Regards.
