    Locally cached Roaming Profile problem

    Hi,
I have two PCs at home that I use.

    1. My "Server" is an old Ivy Lake self build thats running Win 10 Pro. I use it to manage my network and run my Plex server, etc. I typically RDP into this PC either remotely or through my other desktop at home.

    2. My desktop, which is a Lenovo M900 Tiny PC running Win 10 Pro.

My issue: My Server has a system SSD of 231GB.
I noticed that this drive had been increasing in Used Space, which has risen to 160GB. Upon investigating I used WinDirStat to see what was on the drive and noted ~50GB of unknown. Messing around under my User Profile (I use the same Microsoft account on the desktop and Server) I noticed my Roaming Profile was approx 50GB. I guess its my locally cached roaming profile?

How can I delete / shrink this?

Apologies as I am not sure if the years of my remotely logging into the Server from various devices has created this or what. Any help appreciated.

    :)

  3. Windows 10 roaming profile includes AppData\Local & LocalNow folders

Existing Windows 7 & Windows 8.1 domain environment with accounts configured to use roaming profiles stored on a Windows 2012 server using DFS file share.

New Windows 10 Pro built for testing and logged on with an existing domain account. First hint something was wrong was the "Roaming profile not fully synchronised" errors. Looking the event log reveals lots of access denied errors from the user profile service
    attempting to copy to/from AppData\Local and AppData\LocalNow.

Looking in the new v5 profile sub-folder created automatically, there is indeed three sub-folders:

    • Roaming - expected
    • Local - shouldn't be there
    • LocalNow - shouldn't be there

The Local & LocalNow folders are not in the v2 profile from the existing Windows 7 & 8.1 clients.

Aside from these access denied errors and pop-up warning, including Local & LocalNow in the roaming profile is a really bad idea as it really slows down the log on & off process as they tend to contain large number of large files, e.g. cached application
data. The whole idea of splitting Local & LocalNow out is so this temporary/rebuildable data can be kept out of the profile.

Any idea why this is happening?

    Thanks, Rob.

  4. Locally cached Roaming Profile problem

Local & LocalLow folders getting copied into roaming profile on Windows 10

Existing Windows 7/8.1 environment with Windows 2012 domain controller. Domain accounts configured to use roaming profiles. Works fine on existing clients copying just the "Roaming" sub-folder under AppData to the server. Specifically Local and LocalLow don't roam which has always been the case with Windows.

New Windows 10 Pro VM built and when the VM is restarted - causing the user to log off - it's copying all three sub-folders Roaming, Local & LocalLow to the roaming profile. Given that many apps store lots of temporary files & caches in Local & LocalLow, this behaviour really slows down log off. It also significantly increases the size of the roaming profile on the server.

Any ideas? I know that Windows 10 introduces the new v5 profile folder - which is where the three folders are ending up. Any references to anything in Windows 10 re: changes to the roaming profile system? All I can find is stuff about the new v5 profile.
