Yes you're right, not worth doing a reinstall with v10074, over a minor item, and then having to upgrade to v10122 again ... a 3+GB download.

I've also still got the blurry apps problem mentioned in Brink's post on the glitches in the current version. Plus a few other issues.

I'm itching to use it as my flagship, but it's still to buggy . Might even be worth going back to the slow list? *Rolleyes

  2. That's how I manage the releases. I change to FAST if I want to get on the bleeding edge or stay on the SLOW if I want to continue testing what I have. Then if the ISO is offered, I run through my test matrix again with that (things will be fixed in the Slow Ring / ISO version of the same FAST ring release)

Switching back to the SLOW ring allows you a little bit more control.

@Slartybart; Thanks for that information. That's exactly how I'm now proceeding. *Biggrin

Any idea when the ISO for v10122 will be released by MS?

  7. On a clean install (last night) of Win-10, x64, build 10130, I looked for the Defrag.exe program right where I expected to find it, , ,
in C:\Windows\System32\Defrag.exe ,,,,, but it won't run. When I double click it, I get a window opening up and immediately closing. Hmmm!

But, it's there, if you can get it to run. I even tried running it as Administrator, and even that didn't help.

During Beta Testing, we really shouldn't need to Defrag anyway. Eh?

    Cheers mates!

It's(the build) probably not there long enough to fragment. But an SSD should be optimized. If TRIM is turned on it won't matter though, you really don't need to manually run it(at least often).

To check if it's turned on, in a Admin Command Prompt run fsutil behavior query DisableDeleteNotify
It will give you one of two results, either a 0 or a 1. A zero indicates that TRIM is enabled correctly, a one means that it is not. If you have a TRIM-compatible SSD, but find that Windows 10 hasn't enabled the command, you can easily do so by running this command:

    fsutil behavior set DisableDeleteNotify 0

  9. Yes, I'm quoting myself..... lol

I went back and did some more investigating and I found that the Defrag program for Win-10 is NOT "Defrag.exe", but "dfrgui.exe"

    Maybe that will help!
    It's still at: C:\Windows\system32\dfrgui.exe

Just right click on it, and 'Send to Desktop, creating a shortcut' and you'll have it handy when you want to run it, or just set up the scheduler to run it as often as you like.

    Enjoy!

It took me a while to find it too. I was actually looking for the Admin tools GUI .exe file.

Off topic: Start menu not working in build 10130. Anyone else got this problem?

Defrag is still available in 10130 in Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Defrag optimize.

OR: Computer > Right click C:\ drive ... or the drive you want to optimize > Properties > Tools tab > Optimize or defrag

  14. Yes and it took me about as long to find a solution as there is between your question and my answer (11 hrs).

I ran all of the usual tools (WU, DISM, SFC, even tried WSRESET, Store apps updates, Re-reg apps - just in case some app was hanging it).

I fed MS some bits on it, but that was before I found something that worked on my machine. To be honest, some of those 11 hours were spent trying to solve a display issue (yep - AMD strikes again!) and I wrote a few lines of code just to break the lunacy.

Go to Settings>Personalization>Start and flip all the switches
You can get to Settings through the Action & Notification center (All Settings 'tile')

Like yourself, I tried everything and couldn't get it to open, so finally reloaded a ghost image of the C drive.

Thanks for that information, I hadn't even noticed that item in Personalization, but will store it in memory bank for future use ... very useful to know.
