Location service being used without my permission

    Dear forum readers,

It just happened minutes ago. A few minutes after boot, I noticed the location service icon in the notification bar, which means it's being used, or am I wrong ?

The problem is, the only app I permitted to use it is MS Edge, which is supposed to ask for permission beforehand, as stated on the settings page. So, what happened ? Are there logs I can check to see what used the location service ? I suppose desktop programs (i.e. non universal apps), which are not included on the settings page, can still use it unless it's disabled ?

    :)

      Change location settings.
    • Check whether Location for this device is On by clicking on

    • Also turn on Location as well.

Step 2: And as you are unable to set the service Geolocation service to automatic, I suggest you to run SFC scan and check.

    Follow the below steps:

    • Right click on the Start button, click on
      Command Prompt (Admin).

    • Type “sfc /scannow” without the quotes and hit
      Enter.

    • After the scan, restart the computer and check for the issue.

Try to set the service to automatic by following the steps provided in the above post by Praveen Venugopal.

Hope it helps. Kindly update the status of the issue, we will be happy to help you.

  4. Location service being used without my permission

    No permissions

    Hi,

I would suggest you to right click on the user's folder for your profile and check if the permissions shows as "read only'. If this is the case, it might be causing the issue. In this case, I would suggest you to go to C:\User folder, right click on the
folder with your username and follow these steps:

    • Open the properties of the main user profile folder where the files are located (such as Documents, Pictures, etc).
    • Go to the Security tab and click Advanced.
    • Check the box at the bottom of this window. It is labeled "Replace all child object permissions with inheritable permissions from this object" and then click Ok.
This does a one-time action that replaces the security on all the files/subfolders. It’s one-time, so you won’t find that box checked if you peek at it later. Try these steps and let us know the results for further assistance.
