Windows 10: Lock Screen Image Location – On the PC

Hello,



After installing Windows 10 Pro (OEM) on a new PC build last June I selected one of my own photos to edit and use as my Lock Screen. It looks great, but I would like to edit it further. I can’t find it!



HELP!!! I can see it in Settings > Personalize > Lock Screen but can’t get it to give up its secret location. When I hover over it nothing happens. When I right click on it, the thumbnail jiggles a little but doesn’t reveal any information – not even a file name.



I’m not talking about “C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\SystemData\S-1-5-21-1561468695-878025909-126061477-1001\ReadOnly\LockScreen_A”. That’s where Windows puts the “in use” image. I should have put mine in with the defaults at “C:\Windows\Web\Screen” but didn’t.



Any hints?



And if I give up and put the properly edited one in with the defaults, how can I zap the thumbnail in Personalize of the one I can’t find?

Hi Dennis,

To find the location of Windows wallpaper images, we suggest following these steps:

• Open File Explorer and navigate to C:\Windows\Web.
• You'll find separate folders labeled Wallpaper and Screen.
• Screen folder contains images for Windows 10 lock screen.

I would suggest you to set the default pictures as the Lock Screen picture from the PC and check if it works or not.

Follow the steps below:

• In start type "settings" and press enter.
• Select Personalize
• From the left click on "Lock screen"
• Select the default picture and conform by preview.
