    Lock vs Login screen screenshot

I am indeed, Edwin. Thanks for that! This must have come back after I did the reinstall. Great!

So, the picture I want on both my sign-in and lock screen is img102.png. What I get on my sign-in screen is img103.png. I'll reply to any further suggestions in the morning. Thank you all for the help and suggestions offered so far. Greatly appreciated!

Thanks for the welcome, Josey and glad to be here!

Now that I've found the screenshot folder, I'm thinking of what kluges I might try to get this resolved. One might be to rename the img103.png to img103.bak and see what happens.

Another thing I might try would be to put the lock screen image (the one I like) in a different folder, rename it and Browse to that, while renaming the img103.png to img102.png in the "main" folder. Seems like a lot of work, but maybe one of those tricks might fix things.

Oh, and I searched for "img103.png" in the Registry just for the heck of it. Nothing there.

I have always used a imgxxx.jpg picture instead of a .PNG.

    1. I do not believe that using a .BAK on an img will do much good.
    2. The image that you use should be in your pictures and not inside another folder.
    3. You mention a screenshot folder. I have no such folder anywhere.

  5. If your Logon screen is different from your Lock screen (usually mountain lake at logon), delete this registry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Authentication\LogonUI\Creative\<your__ SID>

<your__SID> can be found under key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList, see values ProfileImagePath.

Josey - Using a .jpg file would certainly give me more options, and probably a better quality picture, but I'm on a mission now. <g>

I tried my first "self suggestion" and renamed img103.png to img103.png.bak and rebooted. No joy. Same unwanted screenshot. It turns out there's a duplicate of it at the end of a very long path that I won't retype here. Will try naming that next.

muchmurka - Your suggestion may be exactly what I'm looking for. I'll try that next ... though why this should be necessary or why this changed with the latest Update is beyond me. Will report shortly.

Somebody give muchomurka a gold star. That fixed the sign-in/lock screen screenshot issue. Yay!

The last piece - and this seems minor compared to that - is why the background color changed from blue to gray when I'm restarting or shutting down. Any ideas?

manasa: just one of errors new in v1709, nothing more.

The mechanism is a little bit complicated: Lockscreen image reference is located in user's hive of registry (hkey_current_user), which is attached/loaded only if user is currently logged in. But Logonscreen image should be loaded even if no user is logged; that is why reference to Lockscreen is located under hkey_local_machine hive too. This works correctly for newly created accounts, but not for accounts existing before v1709 upgrade; they see mountain lake instead of their lockscreen image. The program logic is probably broken in this case.

So do not waste time by fiddling with pictures; deleting one registry key (unfortunately named by your SID but you can find its name easily) restores Logon screen functionality immediately; tested many times.

Sorry it's a know bug, but glad you could point me in the right direction. All better now, thank you very much.

Just gotta figure out why my signoff/restart/etc. screen is gray instead of blue now. Open to suggestions.

  10. Logon/shutdown background color is controlled by Customize - Colors - Windows colors & Show accent colour, so set it again.

    Try this:
Set your Background to 'Centered', which will reveal an additional color palette, then make that Custom Color match the Color in "Colors"

And just like that, we're back in business. Thank you both! muchomurka, you got me in the ballpark and Edwin, you gave me the baby steps I needed to bring it home.

Seeing my humble stock setup restored to its default state has produced a joy in me way out of proportion to what is actually on the screen. lol Nevertheless, I'm gonna spend a few minutes logging off, logging on, logging off, logging on ...

    Thanks guys. First rate help!
