  1. Lockdown Browser caused "There are currently no power options available." Error

    I downloaded a lockdown browser for one of my remote college courses, and the first few times I used it I had no issues with it. Today, I used the browser to take a test, and when I was done and exited out of the browser, the power options on my laptop were gone and replaced with "There are currently no power options available."

    I properly uninstalled the browser because I don't need it for any other courses for now, and restarted my laptop manually held down the power button to see if the power options returned which they did not. I have looked at other fixes for this error, but none of them have worked for me and none of them are related to a lockdown browser. I am certain the issue is from the browser, as I have never had this issue before and it only occurred after I used the browser. I would really appreciate any help with this because I am terrible with computers and I need to use my laptop for my courses.

    Thank you!

    :)

    There are currently no power options available

    Hi MR, welcome to the Microsoft community, my name is Luiz Cruz, Microsoft's independent consultant, and I would be happy to help you.

    I understand that your computer is not shutting down completely. To solve this problem I suggest that you perform the steps below:

    Step 1:

    Change the function of the off button. To do this, follow the steps outlined below:

    1. On the Desktop, simultaneously press the Windows + R keys to open Run;

    2. At Run, type "powercfg.cpl" and click Ok, to open the Power Options;

    3. Click on Choose the function of the power button, change the item When I press the power button to Off;

    4. Click Save Changes.

    Step 2:

    Disable third party software and services from system startup. They may be running in the background, making it difficult to shut down the computer. For more information, the article below:

    How to perform a simple boot in Windows.

    Step 3:

    Disable quick system startup. To do this, perform the steps below:

    1. On the Desktop, simultaneously press the Windows + X keys, then click on Power Options;

    2. Under Power Options, click Choose the power button function;

    3. Then click on Change settings not currently available;

    4. Deselect the Turn on quick start (recommended) item, click Save changes.

    If the answer helped in any way, please mark it as an answer, if your question has not been solved, please post again.

    I hope I helped, even more!

    Hi Jacob,

    The error there are currently no power options available happens if the

    • Press the Windows key and R at the same time to open the Run dialog box.
    • Type secpol.msc and click OK to open the
      Local Security Policy
      window.
    • Expand Security Settings.
    • Expand Local Policies.
    • Click User Rights Assignment.
    • Double-click Shut down the system from the right pane to open it's properties.
    • In the pop-up window, click Add User or Group, type the full user name or group name for the affected users, then click
      Add.
    • Click OK to close the window.
    • Restart the computer.

    Let us know if the power options in the Start menu are restored after following these steps.

  4. Lockdown Browser caused "There are currently no power options available." Error

    Windows 10 : There are currently no power options available

    I currently have two users here in the office with Windows 10: There are currently no power options available error.

    I have tried multiple things and none seem to work. Below are the troubleshooting steps i have done so far.

    • Changed power plan (both to a different preset and to a new custom plan).
    • Ran gpedit.msc and ensured User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Start Menu and Taskbar was not enabled.
    • Ran regedit and created a registry value for NoClose with the value 0 at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer.
    • Ran sfc /scannow from an admin command prompt; no issues found.
    • Ran powercfg –restoredefaultschemes from an admin command prompt.
    • Ran Policy Editor and located the remove shut down. Enabled it and disabled it. Did not work
    • System restored it back before the problem started to happen but still getting same result.
    • Took the surface pro tablet off from the domain and logged in as a local administrator. Still got the same result even on a workgroup with administrator logged in.
    • Ran Any current updates, No updates were available.
    • Ran the laptop in safe mode and still same issue, also ran sfc /scanow and still did not find any issues.
    • Ran troubleshoot power options. Did not find any errors.

    One user is using a brand new Microsoft windows 10 surface pro, the other user is using windows 10 pro dell laptop.

    There have no hardware changes to any of the laptops and there have been no installation of any other software.

    The power options out of nowhere just didn't show anymore.

    The only workaround is pushing control+alt+del.
