Windows 10: Locked out of account, code not arriving in email

    Locked out of account, code not arriving in email


    I had a local windows account with a password that was working fine until Microsoft forced a PIN on me one update. I finally got around to removing it and was asked for my (microsoft) password. I tried several including the one I use for login, and it didn't work, so I reset my password for my Microsoft account (which I thought I never used) and stored the password in a password manager on my desktop. I then removed the PIN and logged out.


    When I went to login to Windows the next time my password didn't work. It appears that the password I reset was my local login? The password is now stuck in the password manager which I have no access to. I tried a password reset link around 10x over a number of hours (I had already received 1 for the initial reset, it arrived to my spam folder), but none of them ever arrived to either my inbox or spam folder. Also I am positive I am entering the right email, and that I'm correctly typing the "hidden part" (they obscure a bit for security reasons).


    My next step was, on the Verify Your Identity/Reset your password screen, to choose the other option "I don't have any of these". This led me to a form to provide them with information associated with the account. There I try to complete it, listing the same email that is my backup contact. They again tell me "We just sent a code to **********@*******.com. Check your email for a message from the Microsoft account team, and enter the code here. Again the code never arrives.


    I tried another email that was in my name, but unrelated to this account. I received the code there and filled out the form but was told I don't have enough info to reset. I then set off for the live help, which lied and told me it would connect me with a person, and instead redirected me to the same form I'd already filled out, so I came here. What's my next move? Thank you.

    Also may I suggest you change email accounts to one of the following.....

    Gmail
    Outlook

    The reason is they both use "Step two verification". This style of verification means even if a hacker gets your password they cannot log in to your account. You see every time someone try's to log in that hasn't been verified you will get a text or a phone call giving you a final code to log in. Its very easy and simple to setup also. The great thing is once you setup your Email application with a specific "application password" from that account you never have to log in again AND your account is protected from being logged in from foreign entities.

    I like the new outlook personally however Gmail is also damn good. Gmail also has an IP tracker that allows you to see WHERE the account has been logged in from. Anyway let us know if you wanna change over and have any questions. We will be happy to help and welcome to TPU!

    Unauthorized Emails from my account?

    It is more than likely that your email account was hacked, either by a virus sniffing your password, or just simply hacked.

    Either way, change your password on your email account. Unfortunately the damage by already be done. They already have your contact list and your email address associated with that contact list. There is nothing stopping them from sending out emails using their own SMTP servers to everyone on your contact list and claiming the emails are from your email address. They don't actually have to have access to your yahoo account or even any yahoo server to send emails to people that come from your address.

    Remove account


    I suggest you backup your personalized files first before removing the account.
    To delete an account, follow these steps:
    1. Press WIN + X keys and click Command Prompt (Admin) from the menu.
    2. Type the following command and press Enter. Replace test with the name of your sister's account. Code:
