Windows 10: Log in to windows 10/11 pc using "authenticator" app on the smartphone

This is driving me crazy:I have 3 pc that I use regularly.Only in one of those 3 I'm able to log in to windows using the authenticator app. I even tried to make a new virtual machine just to understand how it works but it seems that once you used a pin or a password. the sing in option doesn't even ask you for the app confirmation. The only PC where I'm able to use it is where I added my account months ago as a second account. So I tried to do the same thing. I've added it as a second account but still, when I press "Sign In" it does nothing and I cant login.. unless I press "sign in options"

Is there an authenticator for windows 10 PC?

I don't have a smartphone and don't want one, but I need a 2-step authenticator for windows 10 PC. I can't find one that doesn't need a phone. Any ideas?

 

Microsoft Account set to use 2 Factor Authentication & Authentication Phone App but it doesn't prompt for authentication when signing in to my Windows 10 PC locally or remotely (via RDP).

OK I created a 2nd Microsoft account and setup the Authentication App on an old phone I had lying around for 2-factor authentication.

Step 1

I logged into this website with that account and it prompted me with the Authentication App so 2 factor is setup correctly on the NEW Microsoft Account.

Step 2

I logged in on my Windows 10 PC with that NEW account and it also DOES NOT PROMPT for 2-Factor Authentication.

I tried to log in via RDP and, again, it DOES NOT PROMPT for 2-Factor.

My question remains unanswered.
