I recently purchased a new desktop system with Windows 11 for my office. I have a few more systems in the office out of which one system has all the major files and it is accessed by other desktops over a common network. My new Desktop is not able to access the Main Computer Which has all the files when I type the IP Address \\192. etc and it asks for credentials which I never made/know. All my previous systems are able to access the main computer without any password. Also, the main computer has Password turned to OFF in Advanced Network Settings. Kindly advise.

    :)

Asking for Network Credentials when trying to access computer on the network

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I understand that you are being asked for credentials when trying to access computers on the network. I’ll certainly help you with the issue.

Ideally, when you are asked for credentials, you will need to enter the username and password of the computer which you are trying to access. If you are on a secured network, you can turn off password protected sharing under Network and sharing options
and you will not be prompted for a password.

If you are unable to access the computer by entering the username and password of the computer, one of thing that I can suggest you is to try entering the Device name and password when you receive the prompt. To check for the Device name, go to
    Start >> Settings >> System >> About.

If that doesn’t work, try the steps mentioned below:

    1. On the computer for which you are being asked for password, type
command prompt in the search bar on the Taskbar.
    2. Right click on the command prompt icon, and select
      Run as administrator.
    3. Now, type whoami and hit
      Enter
      .
You will get the name of the device, try using the name as the username and use the computer password.

Let us know the results, we will be glad to help you further.

  3. option to change the login credentials on Windows 10 computer

    Hello Ankit,

Thank you for keeping us posted.

We would like to know if you have received any email when you say Microsoft gave me an option to change the login credentials on my Windows 10 computer

Again, please be informed that in order to change the Login ID credentials, you need to access you Microsoft Account at the first place, in this case which would be recovering the Microsoft Account(MSA).

I suggest you to follow the recommended link which was earlier suggested.

Getting back into your Microsoft account if it’s been compromised

Once you recover your MSA, you can refer to the below steps to change the credentials.

    • Login to https://login.live.com.
    • Specify the current Windows live ID and password in the available fields and click
      Sign in.
    • On Microsoft account page, make sure that Overview category is selected from the left pane.
    • From the right pane, click Rename account under Account summary.
    • From the right pane of the next page, make sure that Create a new email address radio button is selected under
      Rename your Microsoft account.

    Hope it helps this time.

    Thank you.

Credentials Login issue on new computer added to small Win 10 network

    Hi

I have had 3 computers running perfectly on a Win 10 network. Each computer can see and access each other perfectly with no logins etc required.

But I have now added another Win10 computer but am having issues with Network Credentials being required.

This new PC can see and access one of the others without any login. But for the others it is asking for a Network Credentials login in order to be able to access them.

One of the existing ones can see and access the new one. The other two can see it but are requiring credentials login.

How do I get rid of any credentials requirement on all computers.

All are set up with full file sharing etc as far as I can see. Password protection is off on all of them and all belong to the same workgroup

I want everything to see everything else without any logins required

    Thanks
