Windows 10: Logitech C920 Webcam

- I did an upgrade from Window7 to Win10(9926)
- all went well, apart from a few glitches..
- the Logitech webcam doesn't function with Skype

- anybody found a solution?

Logitech c920 webcam no longer works.

I use a Logitech c920 webcam with my Dell 5567 laptop.

Setup is Windows 10 version 1709, latest.

After the latest Windows update, when I open the Logitech c920 software interface the webcam is not detected. But if I click on Quick Capture, I can see images but the webcam controls and advanced settings are no longer available. When I open up Preferences,
the microphone setting does not function.

I've already done a complete reinstall, several times, but to no avail.

If I use Skype and select the c920, again the imaging/video works. But also cannot open the c920 webcam settings from within Skype video settings.

Is there a fix for this?

 

just to add more spookiness, the Settings option in Skype shows that the C920 is being used:





..so it will run as an app from within Skype, but not as a stand-alone program via the Desktop Shortcut
- which is a bit odd..

I uninstalled the XBox App from the Start Screen, just in case the webcam was defaulting to that software,
- but no luck yet.. (??)

 

On my system the camera seems to work OK. I can turn it on and watch the video.

However, when I received a call the other day, I could hear but the camera box would not show in the window. I thought I saw it once but it may be hidden by something else, so I never saw the video during that call.

I may have a situation where the download version and App version are having problems being on the same system.

 

I would try to reinstall the driver under windows 8 compatibility mode

 

I'm beginning to suspect the same thing as Saltgrass: that there may be a conflict between the two Skype installations..

- your advice is intriguing, Dude - that's something I haven't tried..
- this is an update on a Win7 set-up, so the Logitech drivers may require updating (- even re-installing?)
- I had assumed that the new OS would take of this automatically, on the initial device set-up..

I'm very new to Win10 so, with the rumours of an imminent new build, I'll hang fire for now..
- maybe things will improve..

 

I've just noticed that the Windows Firewall includes an item called "Windows Camera"



- I wasn't aware that this even existed..
- is it possible that the Logitech Webcam software is defaulting to this location?

 

Could be, I never noticed that either. Windows 8 does not show that but 10 does for me.

 

On my system, the folks I am conversing with can see me, so it would seem in my case it is not firewall related. Of course there is an option in the PC Settings, Privacy section which allows Skype to use the webcam...

I am not sure if the same thing is happening to you, but the next time I get a call I am going to try to open the App to full screen to see if the small video window may still be present.

 

appears to be no joy with the 10041 build, as yet..

C920 webcam still won't run as a stand-alone..
now Cyberlink PowerDVD14 won't play BluRays..

 

Using Skype for desktop and not Skype UI ??
( i've the same webcam and Skype for desktop work with her )

 

problem solved by removal of old software..
there was a left-over installation of the lws (Logitech Webcam) software still on the system
which was preventing the correct installation of the driver in Windows10

by using a 3rd-party un-installer, I managed to scrub it out of the registry,
thus allowing the Windows10 auto-update to do it's stuff and install the software correctly

 

Logitech has not yet produced Windows 10 compatible versions of their webcam software as mentioned in this Logitech forum thread.
perhaps after Windows 10 is officially released by the end of July, there will be a new version of the Logitech webcam software that will officially support Windows 10.

 

guess there will be increasing pressure on manufacturers to get up to speed, as the 29th approaches..
- I'm toying with the idea of adding an Xbox to my home set-up, the Win10 app looks clever..
- and some of those Nokia Windows phones are looking really neat.. *Wink
