    Logoff, Logon, shutdown, restart, startup sounds not playing


    If want to change the Windows 10 startup sound, make a copy of C:\windows\system32\imageres.dll, then open the original using Resource Hacker. The startup sound is located under "WAVE", replace that resource with the desired startup sound in WAV format, and save it.

    It's already there, default sound from W7. Problem is that registry hack to enable startup sound disappears after reboot.

    You can go into C:\Windows\Resources\Themes and open the themes with notepad. Scroll down to the bottom and you will find

    Code: [Sounds] ; IDS_SCHEME_DEFAULT SchemeName=@%SystemRoot%\System32\mmres.dll,-800[/quote] I haven't tried it myself but I imagine the mmres.dll is the file to modify?

    I'm running Threshold 2 of Win10. It seems the Startup Sound is working again. Previously, even checked it would only play intermittently on a warm boot, not a cold one. Now it seems to work all the time. There is a 3rd party app that lets you change the Startup Sound to whatever you want, without you having to go through the hack steps.

    The Exit Windows sound is another matter. Even enabled via the Registry and reappearing in the Sound list, selecting a sound for that does not make it play at shutdown.

    the startup sound for windows 10 hasn't worked for me since preview build 10162 but after the last update windows put out I got the startup sound back.... don't hear the logoff or shutdown sounds tho....
