Windows 10: Looking for a Hiren's BootCD replacement

Hello guys.

I have used Hiren's BootCD a lot in the past. Great tool but I feel is quite outdated now. So, I am asking if anyone know any replacement for it. Of course if would be best if:

+ It is free.
+ It is not illegal.
+ It can be ran from cd/usb stick.
+ Runs on w10 PE or something newer than XP. (Mini WinXP is quite picky for some new chipsets/bioses)

Hiren's BootCD 15.2 helped me. 1- Boot from Dvd drive

2- Boot From Hard Drive (Windovs Vista/7/2000/Xp) and voila

Why not "Make one" yourself.

An easy way to start is to make a bootable Linux external usb HDD -- an old laptop HDD with SATA-->USB2/3 connector works well enough.
Install say VBOX / vmware on it

then add a Windows VM -- windows PE or any other version.

On the Windows VM you can then just install normally any tools you want - including things like Free Macrium, partition managers etc.

This would be a great learning tool for you as well.

Bonus as well --if Windows can't fix a problem you've also got all the Linux stuff. 100% Bootable from the USB even if all HDD's in the main computer are totally inoperable.

Another solution -- create a Windows to go external HDD and install anything you like on that.

Contrary to information posted to the contrary you CAN make a Windows to go (W10 as well) from any version of windows on non certified devices.

simply have your windows ISO to hand (create via Ms media creation tool -- can be a disc iso image) and run wintousb. Run on the machine you've installed windows on as you will then get the same "digital activation". Now add programs at will after initial boot. Saves obtaining correct version of WAIK / esd-->iso and other stuff. Note IMAGEX doesn't work on W10 currently so using wintousb avoids all those problems. Free pgm of course !!!.

I tend to prefer the VM option as you don't get any problems running on different hardware with activation -- Linux is the host and the virtual Bios is identical so windows doesn't have a problem.

Of course if you actually need to interrogate / fix real hardware then the windows to go is IMO the best solution,
