Not sure if this forum is the place for this question, but I'm trying to learn how to create an incremental backup using MR 7.1. I haven't found any other place that has been helpful. Until now, I have, for years, made full images of my drives for backup. But it takes so long that I want to learn how to make incremental backups. Can anybody out there help me or point me in the right direction? Thank you........

    :)

  2. I got a Win 10 computer, has MS added the capabilty to create a bootable image ?

Hi! Dave! Thanks for joining this thread my friend! Nicely done again! Team work is good! The W10 image feature is better then nothing, but nothing beats my Macrium Reflect. I can be back up and running just like the day I created the image in 20 minutes.
Makes me a fearless PC user!

You are always welcome Dave! Love my Macrium Reflect!

Well, the simplest way is to just select back up type Grandfather Father Son, that will make all three types of backups full, Differential and incremental.
    Select disk to Image
Select where you want to store your backups Next 1 select template for your back up
Choose what time you want to schedule
    Advanced Auto Verify Image.

If all you want is incremental 1. select Incremental backups.
That will create one full and then increments until you tell it to make a new Full.

OK, I name my full image backups with a descriptive name which includes the date, and the folder on my external drive where I'm storing the image. Also, at present, I'm storing more than on full image on that drive. If I do incremental, do I have to keep the original and all incrementals associated with that original in a separate folder from my other originals?

Thank you all!!! Oh, BTW, what is the reliability of all the incrementals staying attached to the full backup when it comes time to do a restore? Many years ago, I had an issue like this happen to me. If only one incremental (or differential) gets corrupted, you're SOL!!! Any comments on this?

  12. I had one full and 11 incrementals for one of my restores few days ago, no issue. I think that would be related to the disk you store the images on rather than the backups themselves. I have since just switched to FULL and reduced the backups to 3x a week instead of daily and have it del the old backup prior to making a new.

The initial full backup and the incrementals have to be linked (with code of some sort). If the link breaks down, so, too, does the restore. That code has nothing to do with the backup drive. Why did you switch to just using full backups?

  14. The drive I back up too is fast for a "backup" HDD. Takes less than 6 min for my data drive and less than 2 for my SSD. I just figured it would be easier to have 1 backup to go from. My data drive only gets updated when I save something new, which is not often. My SSD, I keep a clean image with Win10 and every program all setup ready to go saved alone. I backup the SSD before making any installs that could leave a mess behind after removal or bork my system. One current SSD image AND the clean one is enough for me.

IN the end, we all come up with a backup scheme that we like and feel keeps us safe. Macrium has been a very reliable program for all of us for several years now. Try a few ways till you find one you feel safe with. Remeber you backup are only as good as the media they are stored on. I switch out hard drive at the first sign of any issues their cheap insurance.

As to the title of your thread, I did link you to Macrium Reflect website KB they also have a forum
