    Loss of internet connectivity

I am posting this in what may be a brief window of connectivity. Last night I was unable to restore either Ethernet or Wireless connectivity in any of the ways that usually work, including a network reset. My ISP (BT, UK) told me they had a fault but later changed their mind; plus I had my own doubts since I had found I could still log on with both my Android tablet and my Windows phone. Although a non-tech it seemed unlikely this would be possible if the broadband service had a fault.

So like the spider I tried and tried again and at last here I am connecting from my Windows 10 (Anniversary) PC --- but for how long? Is there advice for how to deal with this? An orderly checklist of steps to follow, instead of my 'all arms flailing' approach would help. Or should I just start with the network reset?

When I added an Ethernet cable to my Wireless network, I hoped if one failed it could switch to the other. Not so. I have found if one connection goes down so does the other, simultaneously. Why is this?

Well, I am still here without a break so I am going to browse the posts on this forum as long as it lasts.

    :)

  3. Loss of network connectivity and internet

I upgraded to windows 10 pro yesterday and everything seemed to work OK. But when I switched on this morning the PC could not connect to any of the network drives and any visit to an https site resulted in "there is a problem with the certificate for this
site. My laptop, my laptop running windows 7 still connects to network and internet. Any clues on what to do next please.

I tried to revert to Windows 8.1 but the certificate problem migrated back into the Windows 8.1 system. I then tried to Restore to Default settings, this didn't solve the problem either although all my installed apps and programs now needed to be re-installed.

I then tried to re-install Windows 10 as a clean install and on completion although the certificate problem has gone away, I still cannot connect the machine to my domain although I was able to create network connections to my data drives on the server,
so now I do have internet connection and data connections, but I do not consider it an optimal situation.

It has also reduced the capacity of the hard drive with now contains 2 recovery drives and a windows.old directory.

All in all not a pleasant experience

Is this all you want? I thought I had copied the lot but this was all that pasted. I can do it again if needed. I will experiment copying / pasting to Word Pad as I am not used to doing it with Cmd Prompt.

This looks more like it! It is of course working OK now after a few failures.

I have had longish spells with the connection not working at all, and others with it working briefly. Just at the moment it has been OK for a couple of hours, except that a new utility I have installed shows it has bouts of connecting then disconnecting rapidly, in less than a second so the interruption is not detected by me. Is this normal?
