Windows 10: Lost a bunch of data, how to get windows to stop looking for it?

Basically I was trying to repair a raid 1 in my bios, thought i had it, but instead i ended up losing everything. Years of work stuff just gone in an instant. (if you know of a way to get it back let me know but pretty sure its just gone.) It didnt tell me it was going to format the drives at all.


Now windows 10 has a bunch of stuff in the uninstall list that cant be found, a bunch of stuff in the windows start menu that cant be found, when i type to search for something it pulls up options for things that do not exist. Just generally everything is jacked now as far as windows thinking things are some where but they are not.

Anyway to fix this?

Well, I'm sorry to hear that it's a WD My Passport that failed on you, @tomhenry ! *Frown
I'd recommend you to try using a different USB cable with it and see if that will help your system to detect it without it disconnecting.
I'd also suggest you to go to Disk Management and see how the drive is listed there. It won't hurt to check up on the health and SMART status of the HDD by running the QUICK and EXTENDED tests from the WD's Data LifeGuard Diagnostics.
