Windows 10: Lost Access to Settings

Used free upgrade to install Win 10 Pro 64bit to desktop computer. After successful installation, used Start button then Settings, to select Tablet Mode. After restart cannot access Settings from Start button or Action Center. How can I turn off Tablet Mode?

I still could not get "Settings" to open up from the "START" menu even in "Safe Mode". Any other suggestions? I am still all ears.

In order to diagnose the issue let's try to follow below steps and check.

Step 1: Safe Mode



To diagnose whether this issue occurs in "Safe Mode", let’s reboot the computer in safe mode and check if the issue appears there as well.



Safe mode is a diagnostic mode for Windows that starts your computer in a limited state. Only the basic files and drivers necessary to run Windows are started. This helps us in identifying whether the issue is due to some third party programs conflict.
The word Safe mode appear in the concern of your monitor to identify which windows mode you are using. Please follow the below mentioned steps



1. Click on the Power button on the login screen.



2. Press and hold the SHIFT key on keyboard and simultaneously click on
Restart option.



3. Once your PC restarts, on the Choose an option screen, tap or click
Troubleshoot.

If you don't see the Startup Settings option, tap or click
Advanced options.



4. Tap or click Startup Settings.



5. Tap or click Restart.



6. On the Startup Settings screen, choose the startup setting for
Safe Mode with Networking (Generally F5key is pressed to select this setting).



7. Sign in to your PC with a user account that has administrator rights.



If the issue does not appear in Safe Mode then follow step 2



Step 2: Clean Boot



You may follow below mentioned steps to perform Clean Boot:



1. Press "Windows key + R", in the Run box type "msconfig" and Press "Enter"



2. Click on "services" tab, click "Hide all Microsoft services" in the left bottom



3. Then click on "Disable all" on the right bottom



4. Now click on "Startup" tab, click on "Open task manger"



5. Highlight the startups and click on "Disable" on the right bottom



6. Now click on "Apply" and then "OK"



7. Restart your computer.



Note: After troubleshooting, refer to this section ‘How to reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting’.

WinKey/A or swipe from right for Action Center > Press Tablet Mode. That toggles it off and on.

Thanks for quick reply. Neither solution worked. Cannot access Action Center at all. Now believe my installation is corrupted.

Thanks for link above. Was successful in repairing Win 10 Pro 64 bit. Took longer than I expected but I have a slow internet connection.
