  1. Lost administrator priviliges and Bad Image credui.dll error

    Hi guys
I have two HP8540W laptops with 250GB SSD both running Windows 10 Pro fully updated.
I had a problem with the screen flickering and then going blank on the work laptop so it appeared as if the screen had become faulty after all these years.
So I thought that I would remove and swap over the hard drives and at least have all the data for work on the laptop with the functioning screen.
The result of this is the work laptop is functioning as I am using it now to type this BUT a couple of problems have occurred that I can't remedy.
I seem to have lost administrator privileges on the work laptop and am receiving the System32\credui.dll error 'is not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error' when trying to access the Chrome browser. I have tried most solutions that I can find by Googling these problems but with no success. I am not sure if by solving the privilege problem that this will in turn solve the credui.dll error message problem or vice versa.
I have tried Safe Mode but access is blocked trying to click on' User Accounts' although it seems that I have administrator rights via the inbuilt administrator within Safe Mode.
I cannot achieve admin status when not in Safe Mode.
I attach the SFC scannow log file which found corrupt files but was not able to fix some of them. I do note that there is another file in the Logs called CbsPersist which is some 20mb in size if this would assist.
I tried running DSIM in Safe Mode but received an 'error 1084 saying that this service cannot be run from Safe Mode' and as I cannot achieve admin status for the CMD I cannot run it effectively in ordinary mode.
Further I am receiving the following error 'The specified procedure could not be found" when trying to access some of the installed programs such as MBam, Revo Uninstaller, Speccy, Rogue Killer, EaseUs ToDo, as well as it seems that AVG, PrivaZer and others are unable to be opened by clicking on the desktop shortcut although it seemed that AVG was visible in the tray but has now disappeared after I clicked on the desktop shortcut??

Does anyone have any ideas on how I might solve these problems please.
    Regards

    :)

Bad Image Errors - dll files changing to 0 bytes

    Hi
Have an unusual problem (to me anyway)

Last week I got "Bad Image" errors with Adobe Lightroom (the program had worked OK previously). Two .dll files were listed as corrupt and in Explorer both were shown has having 0 bytes size. Re-installation resolved the problem.
Today I have had the same "bad image" error with another program. Techsmith SnagIt. Once again it was .dll files and they show in explorer as 0 bytes. The timestamp on the 0 byte dlls is the time of the error i.e. today (not when the files were installed).

What I've done so far :
Ran McAfee viruscan across all disks - no problems reported.
Ran Malwarebytes - no problems reported

Went to the properties for the disk drive and under "Tools" ran error check - nothing found
The disk is an SSD so I went to Samsung Magician which shows drive condition as good and S.M.A.R.T. shows wear levelling count at Current Value 99. I do not use Rapid Mode.

The problems are happening on a Samsung 850 Evo 500GB

    Any suggestions welcome

    Dave

  3. Bad image and .dll errors

I keep getting bad image, dll errors, and I'm unable to download anything. Originally I thought this was because of an update so I used the fresh start ability to restart everything and I still get the same errors. Could anybody help diagnose my problem?

Lost administrator priviliges and Bad Image credui.dll error

Conhost.dll and msls31.dll bad image errors

    Hello,

Looks like you are encountering an issue with your device due to corrupt system files.

We recommend performing the methods below and see if the issue persists:

    Method 1: SFC scan

System File checker (SFC) scan is done to check if there are any corrupted system files that could be causing this issue. Refer to these steps to perform a SFC scan:

    • Press the Windows key to open the Start Menu, type Command Prompt or cmd in
      the Search box.
    • Right-click on Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or
      click Yes.
    • At the command prompt, type the following command: “sfc /scannow” and press
      enter.
    • After the process is finished, restart the computer.

    Method 2: Memory Diagnostic tool

If the above steps didn’t help, we would suggest that you to run the memory diagnostic tool and check. Refer to these steps:

    • Press the Windows key to open the Start Menu, then select
      Control Panel.
    • Change the view by option on the top-right to Large icons.
    • Click on Administrative Tools and select
      Windows Memory Diagnostic.
    • Click Restart now and check for problems.

If the suggestions above didn't work, feel free to post back so we can further troubleshoot.
