    Lost Home Network Connection

The upgrade from 8.1 went smoothly, the only problem so far is that
I lost my Home Network connection and don't see how to re-connect.

My Home Network consists of 3 computers, an ancient XP, a newer WIN7,
an HP Printer and this one running WIN10.

Where do I find the screen(s) that will let me connect this computer to
    mt Home Network ?

    Thanks,

    rs

    :)

  2. error code 85050025 - exchange email sync

I was just about to post the same conclusion. I was having connectivity problems and noticed it was logged into a BT fon account, which is an OPEN connection (i.e. a public, unsecured network). Reverted to my home network (which is a secure connection) and
    it immediately synched up.

It looks like it lost the home network at some point and switched to the public network. There must be (or should be ) a setting somewhere to define your default network.

  3. network connection between home computers lost aftre 1521 windows upgrade

The answers given did not work though I tried them. The troubleshooter etc. said things were well. I finally connected to my prepaid on online help service and the technician duplicated what the people on this forum suggested none of it worked then he/she
basically undid the network and rebuild it step by st ep and did the same for the homegroup. took an hour of the technicians time to fix the 1511 screw up.

any way thanks fo for the help but problem was far more complicated but for the time being fixed. of course today I'm adding a laptop to the network and the laptop is new and will need t o be updated t o 1511 so I'm a bit nervous

  5. Windows XP will not connect/talk to Windows 10 and vise versa, not that i have found. the same was true of Win8 it was impossible without some nonstandard magic, if it was possible at all.

    1) make sure all PC's are on the same IP range and subnet and gateway and DNS. externally pointed DNS can sometimes cause issues with internal resolution even though that seems silly, i see it everyday.
    2) make sure they are on the same Workgroup
    3) if you are on a homegroup then your WinXP machine is toast, not usable.... but make sure the Win7 and 10 machines are put on the same homegroup.
    4) Microsoft killed the VERY basic networking protocals in Windows 10 making it even worse than Windows 8 was. i fight my Win10 machine even seeing my Synology NAS let alone accessing it and other computers, on a daily basis and i can go up to SMB 3+ for my shares.
    5) if you are using a microsoft account to log into windows DONT. if your home pc is just that, then forget ever using a microsoft account, it only complicates the very basic essentials of a network because you are not Bob @ Computer1 you are L: bob@hotmail.com @Computer1, which ends up making other PC's think you are some foreign entity on the network, but when you look at your user account you are not L: bob@hotmail.com you are bob or if you have a longer name like mine that might be L: @msn.com windows turns it into cyberl and only that, so then your authentication is even more broken.
you are only L: @msn.com to another microsoft app or 3rd party application which recognizes those credentials.

create a local account and use that 24/7 unless you really truly need to use your microsoft account. but expect networking issues when you do.

Sorry to break this to you, but my Home Network of 3 Computers, running XP, WIN7 and WIN10 talk to each other just fine.
I can copy and paste files from one to the other and send print requests also.
Not sure how this works, but I gave up a long time ago trying to fathom Windows.

  7. w1ksz - dont be sorry for correcting me, i am always game to be edumacated *Smile

are you simply enabling lower encryption in networking and sharing and using gpedit to change the NT Auth settings like we started having to do with Vista/7 and XP mix networks?

    Lost Home Network Connection

    ====================================
I am very interested in that. How did you do it?
I have an existing Home Network (Home Group: MS Home) with mixed computers
My clean installed Windows 10 computer just can not join my existing HomeGroup.
It seems to have automatically created a new Home Group (I don't know its name), and sent me a NEW password. (I wrote down that just in case I need it in the future). I don't need another new HomeGroup, much less a new password.

    Help needed:
How to make my newly clean installed Windows 10 computer to join the existing Home Group.

    Thank you very much.

The last sentence in my reply explains it all ... I have no idea. It's all Black Magic to me.

    ==============================
This is a reply to my own post, shown above, about my current situation.
My Windows 10 computer can see my Win XP computer. (So the Win 10 computer has already joined the existing Home Group. I don't know how it became that way.)

    Problem:
But my Win XP computer can not see my Win 10 computer - so, the Win XP can not use the printer connected to the Win 10 computer.

Update: w1ksz: Your post is very important, even though you don't know or no longer remember how you got it working.
The fact is "it can work" as demonstrated by you --- sooner or later someone (or me) will figure out how to get it working.
Thank you very much for telling us about that.
