Windows 10: Lost home network in build 10074

Getting the username/password prompt is good news because sharing will work if you enter the credentials properly. Must remember to add the comp name before username e.g. compname\username

Getting the 80070035 error is a dead end.

 

I also lost the network setting (beside the clock) and not able to close the wired network properly (don't have the wireless, took out the card). I have the 10074 version. Not able to do a print screen (screen shot) to show you the white screen that appears beside the clock. When I go in Network connections and use the main switch (Ethernet Status) to close the Internet, I have to do repair to get it back. Got to go to work...

 

Before I ran that network troubleshooter, which found no issues, no matter what I typed into user/passwd prompt it would not let me in. I tried with computer name, I tried with just \, I created brand new users. Nothing worked. It would not let me join homegroup either. I am not sure what got changed by the troubleshooter, as it isolated no issues, but that proved to be the magic ingredient for me.

It worked for that evening. Now it is all messed up again. Same symptoms. I cannot browse shares on upstairs computer from down. Tried everything. It worked briefly then stopped. Very frustrating!!

 

Are you running 10074 ? apparently after I updated to 10122, I no longer need the work around as shown in post #3. Set NETBIOS back to default and still working.

I've noticed that you are using Homegroup for networking. May be changing to regular Home Networking might help.
Another thing to look at if your router is having the latest firmware.

 

I have everything set up for both home group and standard networking. Meaning, those shares should be more than avail at the workgroup and the home group level. How did you upgrade to 10122?

I wound up rerun-ing network troubleshooter on both machines, which somehow allowed me to see all but 1 drive on my upstairs machine. That one drive is an external USB drive. That is the only difference. Permissions are identical.

 

I upgraded via Windows Updates and everything seems to work OK except couple of hiccups. The audio of my SB-X-fi did not work but disabled/re-enabled fixed it. Startup menu seems to be a step backward but I never use it anyway, use Quick Launch toolbar instead and a third party software called "Listary" that has a good search engine and can also setup with frequent use programs/Folders with double left click.

Never had any networking problems except for build 10074 that I had to apply the work around then everything worked.

BTW, did you assign a static IP for each PC's in the router ?

 

I did not assign static. Do you think that would help?
