Windows 10: Lost my files in Windows.old after Win10 version 2004 update

Please help me, I lost all my work files in the Windows.old folder.


My computer had some serious problems a while back and I was forced to reinstall window 10. I have backed up all my files then, but since all the files was kept in the Windows.old folder after reinstalling win10, I foolishly just kept the files there thinking nothing would happen to the Windows.old folder.

Now, 9 months later, I have been working and saving my files in the same folder still in the Windows.old folder. However, yesterday when I try to open my work file folder in Windows.old, it's gone. The whole Windows.old folder is missing. I realize a Win10 update is prompting me to restart my computer, I thought that might by why my files are missing. So I restarted my computer and started the update.


After the update, the Windows.old folder is back. But none of my files are in there. It seems to have backed up a new version of the old windows but kept none of my files. I deleted all the window files in previous Windows.old folder and only kept my work folder/files in the windows.old folder. Now, after the update, the window.old folder has all the window files back again but my work file folders are gone.




Unfortunately, I have not backed up any of my files since the last backup when I reinstall windows. Can someone please help me with how I can go about recovering my files?

When in win10:

• Update&security -> Windows update -> Finding update... .... .... ....

Planning to download the latest Win10.ISO (vers.1803) and manually update:
- Then wait that my ordered new SSD arrives and clone the old HDD to it.

Win10: windows update stuck at never ending loop ?

Hello
Win10: Windows update is stuck at never ending loop ? ( Last Win10 updates in 2017 ). Can't update the laptop. Genuine Win10 on a HP 2015 17.3" laptop that originally had Win8. ( CPU:AMD A9, GPU:Radeon R5 ).

If I download this below file does it manually install the latest updates of Win10 (=2018 April Update) without losing any files currently on the machine ? ( Mainly paid Office 2013 )
