Windows 10: Lost several functions after hard drive replacement

I recently had the hard drive replaced in my Acer laptop. After the drive was replaced, the computer did a bunch of new updates automatically, and now I seem to have lost several functions. I have no sound from the built in speakers. If I plug in external speakers, I get sound from them. Also, if I play the computer on a TV, using an HDMI cable, I get sound from the TV's speakers. Also, the touch screen does not work, the mouse pad does not work, and if I put the computer to sleep using the "fn" and F4 keys, the computer wakes up again in a few seconds.


I have updated the drivers at least twice, and have looked in Device manager to see if devices seem to be turned on. I have tried the built in troubleshooters, but they don't help. I am thinking about trying a " Fresh Start" , but I wonder if that might cause new problems.

Replacing a laptop hard drive with a SSD

I have a Dell Latitude E5420 laptop which has a Windows 10 Pro O/S. I would appreciate a step by step guide on the procedure to replace the hard drive with a Solid State drive; specifically dealing with the transfer of all the software from the old drive to the new. I have an external hard drive I use for backups and a free version of the Macrium Reflect program on the hard drive. The SSD is brand new. I have just 50 GB in total on the 231 GB hard drive. The SSD has 250 GB capacity.

I'd recommend you to try using a different USB cable with it and see if that will help your system to detect it without it disconnecting.
I'd also suggest you to go to Disk Management and see how the drive is listed there. It won't hurt to check up on the health and SMART status of the HDD by running the QUICK and EXTENDED tests from the WD's Data LifeGuard Diagnostics.
