It's been my experience that issues that are the result of an upgrade to a new build, are often fixed ( no such issue) with a clean install on that same hardware. IMHO it is the best case scenario for an issue free install. Especially if your into "tweaking" your install to turn off or remove something with third party tools. Other things like third party Antivirus etc can cause a failed upgrade.

Also keep in mind people with issues are quick to post on forums, while those with no issues, not so much. Results will be lopsided towards issues. It can appear a lot worse than it really is.

  2. If that is any consolation, once you upgrade to Fall, those problems should be gone. *Smile

WU in Fall is perfect. Checking for updates takes ~5 secs, download and installation are super fast too.

WU is also no longer dependent on Windows Firewall and WinHttpAutoProxySvc, that was crazy anyway.

  3. I built three virtual machines today using the FCU as a clean install, and all went very well. Not a single issue during the install or the later software installations. Any software can have an issue, but people need to understand that just because an issue arises, doesn't always mean it is the OS's fault.

Actually, I would say the volume if problems is, if anything, lower than previous builds. We saw loads of issues from the Windows 7 to 10 upgrades.

I rather disagree with your upgrade policy - experience has taught regulars here that manually upgrading using the iso is the most reliable way of upgrading.

Most of the issues reported so far are relatively minor so far. Sure waiting a few weeks may be advisable, but if you make an image backup first, you can safely upgrade and try it.

  5. *Ditto It's the way to go, especially if your upgrading more than one PC. Download once use many times.

  6. I down loaded the Media Creation Tool and made a ISO. I then used the ISO to upgrade my Dell XPS 8700 Desktop. Installed with no problems. Went quick and easy. The upgrade only un-installed one third party program, which was Winaero Solitaire. One other little problem is I have 3 Cruzer Glide flash drives and CFU absolutely refuses to recognize one of them. No big problem there as it works fine on my HP Notebook with an older version of Windows 10. In Device Manager it shows Unknown USB (Device Descriptor Request Failed). Just throwing in my ½ cent.

I have a Cruzer Switch and it also refused to install Windows, so I bought an 8Gb Transcend stick which operates perfectly.

How to go about clean installing this fall update ? Since i can only download ISO version 16299.15 not 16299.19 so then i have to reapply this Oct. 17 update afterwards.

The machine that I run 10 on has had zero problems. Everyone is going to experience different issues. If you do not want to have the machine immediately upgrade to the latest updates, defer them. No one else can do much more than state the same thing over and over to you. Posting on here has zero effect on what anyone will state differently.

It was put out by Microsoft that they would issue the ISO after the new update got released, so that it does not load down their servers. You download the ISO as always and do a clean install and you would have the latest copy for that refresh period.

Never stated that it was. You need to read what I stated. It was put out a week before this update, that Microsoft was going to make the ISO available after they got done pushing out to the majority of machines.
