  1. Lots of problems

I have recently done a clean install of Windows 10 and everything seemed to be fine. However, today I am getting lots of problems. I keep getting little windows popping up saying that an 'update is recommended' for Media Downloader. I am also getting lots of sites opening up that I do not want (a nude woman on the last one). More importantly in the last half hour or so a message appeared accompanied by a voice telling me to ring a number urgently as there was a potential virus found on my computer and that serious security vulnerabilities have been found and that I should call 0800-011-9684.

Can anyone throw any light on these please. Should I be relying on the W10 virus software or should I be going for AVG Free which I have always used previously. Also, do I need malwarebytes again, which I have also used before.

Would I be better going back to 8.1 or stick with 10 and do another clean install, to clean things up again.

Just to keep you abreast of my profile, I am a 75 year old who is reasonable in the use of a pc but not brilliant.

    Thanks for any help.

    :)

    Lots of teething problems

There is no edit before call option / add a number to the contacts from call history

    Aaahhhh. Thank you. :smileyhappy:

Although it sems like I've given Windows Live access to every detail of my entire life and that of my friends in order to make this function work... :-/

I've also now worked out how to sync outlook properly, but first need to get rid of all the People profiles and start from scratch. Any ideas?

Sounds like you have a malware problem. I would start by deleting all browser history and temporary files using the browser options. Then run Windows disk cleanup, then run CCleaner disk cleanup.

CCleaner - Free Download - Piriform

If that doesn't get rid of it then go to Malwarebytes scanning.

I use Firefox browser almost exclusively and first thing I do is install ADBlock Plus. In addition to keeping my websites nice and clean with most advertisements gone, I believe this also helps protect me from malware disguised as advertising. Biggest thing you can do, really, is making sure you know exactly what you are clicking on before you click on it - especially when installing software - always look at exactly what EULA you are agreeing to and always check out the custom install options. Those are the places when installing software that you can deny installing unwanted add-ons.

I don't run any additional anti-virus/anti-malware software other than Windows Defender and I get the small annoying malware about once a year that usually deleting temporary internet files gets rid of. To be honest, I'm not all that careful what websites I visit either. But, I also have my browsers set to clear history on exit so nothing temporary hangs around for very long.

Bluenose1940 : Your computer is absolutely infected!!!!

My suggestion: go to majorgeeks.com... on the (L) side of the page are software categorys

Get Avast Free from the Antivirus section.

Get Hitmanpro, malwarebytes antimalware, spybot search and destory, and super antispyware from the antimalware section.

Once all of these are downloaded, install them all, update them all, and then run a scan with each program, 1 at a time.

I would start out with hitman pro, and proceed from there.

    Laterz,

  6. I have done everything that NavyLCDR has suggested and everything seems fine at the moment. Is there anything that I can do that will effectively 'test' the situation to confirm that I have got rid of the problems.

    Thanks again.
