Windows 10: Low Battery Issue - Surface Pro 7

I have a Surface Pro 7 laptop. Of late, I have noticed that the battery drains off quickly. Even while I have put it on power supply mode, I notice that the battery status continues to decrease steadily. Any reasons for this and how I can fix this ? Thanks in advance.

Surface Pro 4 Battery issues

If the laptop works without the battery than the charger is functioning correctly. Take a cloth with a bit of rubbing alcohol on it (or some on-the-go alcohol swabs), and clean the metal contacts that connect your battery to your laptop.

Make sure to install all Windows important updates.

Install the latest versions of your laptop device drivers you can download the latest device drivers from the device manufacturer or from your laptop manufacturer website.

Step 1

1. Shutdown your laptop.

2. Remove the battery.

3. Connect the AC power adapter to your laptop.

4. Power on the laptop

5. Open the Device Manager by typing Devmgmt.msc into Start Menu or from Control Panel.

6. Under the Batteries category, right-click all the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery listings, and select Uninstall (it’s ok if you only have 1).

7. Shutdown the laptop.

8. Insert the battery.

9. Power on the laptop.

If above suggestions won't resolve the battery charge issue then follow below steps.

Step 2

1. Shutdown the laptop.

2. Remove the battery.

3. Start the laptop with only AC adapter connected to the laptop.

4. When you log in to Windows OS connect the battery while Windows OS working.

Step 3

Reset the System Management Controller. Use one of these methods to reset the SMC, which controls battery management, battery status light.

1. Shut down the computer and disconnect the power cord.

2. Remove the battery.

3. Press and hold the power button for ten seconds.

4. Reattach the battery and AC power adapter, then start up the laptop.

Hopefully one of the above suggestions will help you resolve the battery not charging problem. If the battery still doesn't charge, you may need to replace your battery.

This week, new complaints from Surface Pro 3 owners suggest that Microsoft’s recent fix for endemic battery life issues has in fact caused new, different and more serious issues. In fact, some believe that it was Microsoft’s August fix that is causing this new issue.

Here we go again.

As you may recall, Microsoft uses two sources for its Surface Pro 3 batteries, Simplo and LG.

In July, Surface Pro 3 users began complaining about battery life issues which, in some cases, were so serious that the devices couldn’t be used unless they were plugged into power. After a bit of investigation, one commonality was discovered: All of the impacted Surface Pro 3 devices utilized Simplo-made batteries. And a few weeks later, Microsoft had some good news: It said that the problem could be solved by a software fix. Which it later said it was testing.

Then, over a month and a half after the battery life issues were first reported, Microsoft finally delivered that fix. And it seemed, based on reports I received from readers on Twitter and via email, that Microsoft had indeed fixed the problem. That was August 29.

Over three weeks later, it’s clear that the Microsoft fix has triggered another round of battery life problems. And amazingly, improbably, this one is even worse.

This time, Surface Pro 3s with LG-made batteries are impacted, and this time, many users are discovering that their devices are unusable, or only usable for a few minutes at a time. Even when connected to power.

As always, Microsoft is moving slowly to quietly address this new problem...
