  2. My M.2 2280 Hard drive is going bad

So I've recently gotten a new I7-7700K computer and reinstalled Windows 10 on my Crucial 275 gigabyte M.2 2280 SSD however the M.2 is malfunctioning and it's fairly old (four years). I have ordered I newer Samsung 960 EVO M.2 2280 that is compatible with
my new mother board, but I am worried about cloning my hard drive so I don't have to reinstall windows. Should I just do a clean install of windows 10 again and not try cloning it? My system specs are below.

    I7-7700K

    ASUS Z270-Strix Gaming F motherboard

16 Gigabytes (2x8) Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4-2666 Ram

2 Terabyte Seagate Firecuda SSHD (Mainly for games)

    ASUS GTX 1080ti Founder Edition

EVGA 750 Watt G2 fully modular power supply

I do have a 500 gigabbyte WD passport external drive I could create a recovery image on, but not sure how that would work with the new M.2 I am installing when it arrives from Newegg.

    Thinking about getting a 1TB m.2

My first thought was that using a 1TB SSD in what is basically a caching scheme is crazy.

    On further thought, it's crazy.*Smile

I'd suggest getting this Sabrent Rocket Q 1TB NVMe PCIe M.2 2280 Internal SSD High Performance Solid State Drive R/W 3200/2000 MB/s (SB-RKTQ-1TB) - Newegg.com or this Sabrent 1TB Rocket NVMe PCIe M.2 2280 Internal SSD High Performance Solid State Drive (SB-ROCKET-1TB) - Newegg.com as an alterative to Samsung. If you had a PCI-E 4.0 CPU + motherboard (you do not, at least in your My Computer listing), I'd suggest this: Sabrent 1TB Rocket Nvme PCIe 4.0 M.2 2280 Internal SSD Maximum Performance Solid State Drive With Heatsink (SB-ROCKET-NVMe4-HTSK-1TB) - Newegg.com.
