    Kari, I very much appreciate all of your efforts. Hyper-V is functioning flawlessly running my XP machine. And with Windows 10 it's running much faster.

    Hello everyone
    I know that the thread is old, but I just want to say that I'm facing the same described error.
    And I can't go with a new system installation.
    My Windows 10 is a fresh install (not an upgrade from win 8)
    I have many apps installed on, and can't format my SSD
    I have vmware installed and it's the default virtual machine manager that I use

    The problem you had seems to happen when Windows 10 is installed while virtualization is disabled in BIOS. Enabling virtualization afterwards causes Hyper-V to malfunction. Removing Hyper-V and reinstalling it will not fix it. Unfortunately, the only solution I know is to enable virtualization in BIOS before installing Windows 10. This seems to be a bug in Windows 10. I have reproduced this problem on two separate computers. This is why you were finally successful when you enabled virtualization before reinstalling Windows 10.

    I am having the same issue with the same vague error.

    I've unsinstalled/reinstalled Hyper-V. Changed the directory. There is no SERVICE account in the administrators group, so that's not the issue.

    I am at a total loss here. The server instance simply will not start.

    I didn't see any overt local policies that could be blocking it.

    Any other ideas as to why this won't start up?

    Thank you for saying that.

    After reading that, it explains exactly my situation. I created on image on a PC that did not have VT, and now when I put that image on other PCs with VT, VMs do not work.
