    Made a boo-boo - now can't run Sticky Notes

I somehow managed to enable the built-in administrator account - now Sticky Notes won't run, but I get this:

Made a boo-boo - now can't run Sticky Notes [IMG]

    it says
    The app cannot be run
Sticky Notes cannot be run using the built-in administrator account.
Log in using another account and try again.

But there is only one account: mine, with admin priviledges. As this is a one-person household there was no need to create user accounts.

I have googled the phrase 'how disable built in administrator account windows 10' but get nowhere with the suggested solutions. What to do?
    Thank you.

    :)

It appears you may have done more besides enabling the built in Administrator account, do you have Pro and have you been setting policies? Besides, your second screenshot clearly shows you are not logged in as Administrator, but as Göran, your normal user account (which is an administrator - but not the Administrator).

Your account is behaving as if it's the Administrator. One way to do this was found by @Kari on another thread with the same problem as you. The user had created the problem...

    Kari's answer was...

App can't be opened using the built-in administrator account.

If this is what you did, then undoing the policy changes you made will put things back to normal.

Whether or not the built in Administrator is enabled seems to have nothing to do with your problem. You can leave it enabled or disable it without affecting your user account, it's your choice. There's a tutorial on this.

Bree to the rescue! Thank you for the informed, comprehensive and easy-to-follow reply. '...do you have Pro (yes) and have you been setting policies? (maybe...)'
'See, I had been fiddling with Ultimate Windows Tweaker just then and had made a mistake in there. Using secpol.msc I enabled Run all administrators in Admin Approval Mode (was disabled). Admin Approval Mode for the Built-in Administrator account was already enabled.
After reboot it was all back to normal. Thank you Bree and also to Kari the Finn; paljon kiitoksia! from this Swede.

Ingen orsak, trevlig att höra att problemet är löst.

You are welcome, good to hear the issue is solved.

What happened to you is exactly why I strongly advice all users to forget all tweakers and optimizers. First, they can do nothing that couldn't be done with native Windows tools. Second, the risk to brick your PC increases exponentially when user just clicks various options instead of studying them first, finding out what they mean and do.

Especially when it comes to Windows security you should only use settings and tools natively available in Windows, in addition to settings which can be modified in your AV and firewall applications. No additional tweakers and optimizers should be used.

In this case we are dealing with a really important security policy User Account Control: Admin approval Mode for the Built-in-Administrator account which by default is in Not defined state, not used at all. When turned on, the default state of this policy is Disabled. This is clearly told in policy properties:

The same from Swedish Windows 10:

Made a boo-boo - now can't run Sticky Notes [IMG]

As you can see, the policy when turned on in its default mode Disabled changes the way apps are run. All apps are run using built-in admin account, not user's own account which effectively blocks all UWP apps because they cannot be run with built-in-admin rights, elevated.

You turned the policy on in tweaker, its default mode is Disabled. That's what happened.

You already solved your issue, the above rant is mostly to benefit future readers of this thread. Be careful, instead of downloading this or that tweaker come to forums and ask how you could change whatever you feel needs to be changed in Windows. Do not blindly change policies and settings without finding out what they do.

You, Kari and Bree did) 'the above rant is mostly to benefit future readers of this thread.'Rant I don't know, but it is very useful advice from someone who obviously know his sh**. I, for one, take it to heart.

Thank you for your most edifying and insightful reply. (Now, how do I up the rep of you guys? I forget how.)

One more thing: I want to clarify why I advice against all and any tweakers and optimizers.

Often when discussing about them, some user posts something like "Yes, in general I agree with you but this SuperHyperTweakerPlus really is excellent. You should avoid all other tweakers but SuperHyperTweakerPlus is safe to use".

Then another user posts "No, don't use SuperHyperTweakerPlus or any other tweakers except AnotherSuperTweaker, that's the one I use, never had any issues".

And this goes on and on. In my personal very subjective opinion it's better to make this as simple as possible: Do not use any third party tweakers and optimizers!

I am quite sure that if users would just let Windows do what it can very well, to take care of itself, using native tools and settings only to tweak it, we would have much less issue threads here on Ten Forums.

My 'personal very subjective opinion' is the same as yours. I avoid third party tweakers, optimisers and shells. This I feel may be the reason I've had trouble-free upgrades, first from OEM Windows 7 to the original RTM Windows 10 release, then on through all subsequent versions from 1511 up to and including 1709.

Those who say a clean install is needed at every major release often seem to be those who use tweakers.

You remember when Windows 8 was released? Users filling various forums with posts about how they did not like how W8 looked, with links to various tweakers "to make Windows 8 to look and feel like Windows7".

Users got issues with this tweaker and that optimizer in their efforts to try to change the looks of Windows 8 to resemble their familiar Windows 7, when basically all they had to do could have been done with a few simple settings in Windows 8.

I admit that it required a start menu replacement but other than that, no tweaker was needed. Yet, a lot of users choose to use a tweaker which then broke their system.

BTW, back then I even made a tutorial for this on our sister site Eight Forums: Windows 8.1 - Make it Look and Feel like Windows 7

Yes, that's why when I needed to replace my dead machine I went for an older Win7 one - skipped 8 and waited for 10 *Smile
