  1. Mail App needs a security update for AOL Emails

Hello. I recently started to use the Mail App. I wasn't sure where to post this so I posted it here.

The reason why I'm posting this is that the mail app uses a less secure way to connect to AOL Emails.
Let me explain. I cannot connect to my AOL Email by going to Accounts/Add account/Other account POP,IMAP should be supported there BTW. After entering Email, Name and Pass it won't connect and instead asks for a password again as it cannot sync.

To fix this I had to go into my AOL Account Security and check (Allow apps that use less secure sign in)
    and about that...

Some non-AOL apps and devices use less secure sign-in technology, which could leave your account vulnerable. You can turn off access (which we recommend) or choose to use them despite the risks.

This change allows email applications that do not meet AOL’s recommended security standards to access your account and may leave your account more vulnerable to security risks.

Microsoft, You really should fix this. I will not leave my account vulnerable because AOL is not supported properly in the Mail App.
There is still a lot of people that use AOL. In the meantime, I won't be using this app and do it the old fashion way, The browser.

    :)

AOL mail not working with Windows 10 mail ?

Hello tynaskos, I’m Virginia an independent advisor here.

I’ve seen that error on accounts which have two-factor/step authentication where the user requires an app specific password which is entered in place of the account password.

Does the AOL account use this security feature?

If not then check the usual ‘suspects’: username & password, whether the account uses SSL & whether the port numbers are set correctly.

    AOL Mail IMAP Settings

The IMAP settings for AOL mail are as follows:

AOL Mail IMAP server address: imap.aol.com

AOL Mail IMAP user name: Your full AOL Mail email address. For AOL email, this is your AOL screen name plus "@aol.com," such as "*** Email address is removed for privacy ***" (or @love.com, @games.com

AOL Mail IMAP password: Your AOL Mail password

    AOL Mail IMAP port: 993

AOL Mail IMAP TLS/SSL required: yes

Enter these SMTP settings to send outgoing email through to your AOL Mail account from any email program.

    Incoming Mail Server: imap.aol.com

SMTP Outgoing Server Address: smtp.aol.com. Set the port to 587

SMTP Username: "*** Email address is removed for privacy ***" (or @love.com, @games.com or @verizon.net)

SMTP password. The password you use to log in to AOL Mail

  3. Outlook trouble in Windows 10 handling AOL email

    Hi Dave,

    • Are you referring to Windows 10 Mail App?
    • If yes, then is that an additional account?

If your AOL is an additional account in Windows 10 Mail App, then I suggest you to remove the account and reconfigure it and check the behavior. And if your AOL is primary a account, please get back to us for further assistance.

I suggest you to try the steps provided in the link below and check.

    Thank you

Have you tried setting it up using Other or Advance Setup? Here are the POP settings of AOL:

    • AOL Mail POP incoming server address: pop.aol.com
    • AOL Mail POP outgoing server address: smtp.aol.com
    • AOL Mail POP user name: Your AOL Mail screen name (what precedes "@aol.com" in your AOL Mail address; if the address is *** Email address is removed for privacy ***, for instance, the screen name is "me")
    • AOL Mail POP password: Your AOL Mail password
    • AOL Mail POP port (Incoming): 995
    • AOL Mail POP port (Outgoing): 587
    • AOL Mail POP TLS/SSL required (both for incoming and outgoing): yes

On Lumia devices, Advance setup doesn't have fields for Ports and Logon authentication. To enable this you'll need to include it on the incoming and outgoing server. For exam. "user@aol.com:995:1". The number "1" indicates that the TLS/SSL will
    be enabled.
