Windows 10: Mail App Problem

Hi, for some reason when I receive emails from my Mail app the banner and ping sound only pop up when I go on mail app. However, that is not suppose to happen! I always had the notifications appear on my desktop when my mail app is not opened. Moreover, on the far right of my taskbar, there is this chat bubble where I see what email activity I get. They don't pop up until I open my mail app. How do I fix this?!


It's so strange, when I log into my account, the mail app on my taskbar should have a number at the right corner showing how many messages I have. It doesn't do that. It actually only pops up when I click on the mail app. It's so hard to tell if I got emails from someone, and I only know if I got it when I go directly to the mail app. The background app, show app for notifications are turned on and I made sure everything was turned on for mail app and I also checked the settings in the mail app as well.

This is the suggested solution below if you haven't already tried it.

In this Windows 10 build 10041, the Mail, Calendar, and People apps may be broken due to a licensing issue with the Store Beta. To get these apps working again, you need to follow these steps:

• Open powershell as administrator
• Run the command Get-appxprovisionedpackage –online | where-object {$_.packagename –like “*windowscommunicationsapps*”} | remove-appxprovisionedpackage –online
• Re-install Mail, People and Calendar from the Store (green tile)

I did that to no avail, then I ran WSReset.exe; now I'm good on all 3, Mail, Calendar and People! *Confused

OK, my next suggestion was going to be uninstalling Mail and Calendar and reinstalling from the Windows Store. You can have a go at this by following these steps.

1. Open the Start menu, type Windows PowerShell.
2. Right click on the Windows PowerShell and select Run as administrator.
3. Enter the below command to remove the Mail and calendar app.

get-appxpackage *microsoft.windowscommunicationsapps* | remove-appxpackage

After performing the above steps, install the Mail and calendar app from the Windows Store.

Hope this helps, you will, of course, have to add you accounts back again.
