    Not sure what link you followed or what you typed to get there, but that's just a PR splat for Avast buying Piriform, nothing else. The install "dialog" is the same as always, just uncheck what you do not want.

    Well that was just to inform Piriform was brought into be part of Avast, some see the extra addins to install along with Ccleaner and some don't see the extra ads in, I seen the screen on mine with to try the professional version, and install Chrome on one machine, others seen the Install Avast check mark option

  5. That shot in Post #8 is from the installer, not from the link to download.

    Back to my original question, can I safely just the delete that collection of avast leftovers. There's no ".exe" files in any of it. I really don't like doing the "avastclear" routine. Reminds me of my experiences with Norton.

  6. Well best way i'd think is using the avast removal tool in safe mode to be sure all removed properly, it may leave traces if you safely manually delete it

    Yes you can delete them.

    Or you could leave them - it doesn't matter either way.

    They are orphan entries that will not be looked at unless you install avast again.

    May fool with this again after this Update finishes.

    Orphans is a good word. And NO I have no intentions of using Avast. Another episode like this and I will quit CCleaner too.

    @CWGilley

    Clayton, I know this has irked you, understandably, but no reason to quit CCleaner, And the removal tool is quite safe. I've used it in the past. When the dust settles, have another look. TC

  10. I did uncheck the box and clicked the "Not Right Now Button" only to come back in 10 minutes to find the install completing. Yea that irks me.

    Given time for this burr to get out from under my saddle I'll keep CCLeaner.

    CCleaner is a good product I reckon.

  12. ProgramData's data are used to store some config, logs and stuff like that, it is usually left in case of a reinstall. It is safe to remove. WinSxS files are left to avoid problems. You should not touch those.

    I was on line with Bank Of America and checked the chat button and MBAM notified me of trojen.nyetya. It was quarantined and later removed. That is when I thought I would have CCleaner have a go at it, was notified of an update. It went without issue, and AVAST was not an option. The update was labeled important changes so I wondered why. Read this: CCleaner compromised: better check your PC - gHacks Tech News. *Eek
