  1. Malware infections are associated with unlicensed software

Globally, there is a strong and consistent correlation between using unlicensed software and encountering malware. So, the higher the usage of unlicensed software, the higher the risk of encountering malware.

Unlicensed software may have viruses and would not have sufficient security measures, which would leave the door open for hackers and viruses. This could have serious implications on you personally or your business.

The majority of software deployed on personal computers is unlicensed. 66% of end-users face problems with software obtained from suspect sources. IDC estimates that there is a one-in-three chance of encountering malware when purchasing unlicensed software.

    How to Stay Protected:

    - Buy from trusted sources

    - Use licensed Windows 10 software only- Cheap doesn’t mean legitimate

    - Check the product key source

For digital downloads, make sure the product key comes from a trusted source and not from an instant messaging platform.

    - Be wary of the packaging

Make sure the packaging of the physical product includes an authentic Microsoft logo and brand identity. Be wary of stand-alone stickers or product key cards, they don’t grant the right to use Microsoft software.

    - Make sure you open it first

The package of the physical product must be sealed to ensure first time use. Product keys are designed to work on a single or limited number of devices.

    - Stay up-to-date!

Regularly updating your software helps protect you from potential hackers and viruses.

So what are your thoughts? Have you been or are you a victim of unlicensed Windows 10 software?

    :)

    Hi:

There is no one set of "boilerplate", "cookbook" or standard steps.
    Each computer is unique.
    Each malware infection is unique.
Proper diagnosis, cleanup and repair depends on the particular infection and the system that is infected.
The process can be tedious and time-consuming, often requiring the use of multiple powerful tools, in the proper sequence.
Many of them can actually damage the system if deployed improperly by untrained computer users.

    Bottom line:
Malware cleanup is best done with *customized* support provided by trained individuals who know what tools to use and how to use them.

There are a few folks with such expertise here at this forum (I am not one of them).
And there are a number of reputable computer disinfection fora where trained malware removal experts provide free, custom assistance.

    Cheers,
