  1. Managing owner, user, groups

Hi, I find hard to understand my “default” settings on the control privacy of users and groups set in my machine, there’s like 10 users, some with more privileges than me(an S-bunch or numbers with lots of permission intrigued me) and also lots of groups that I didn’t set, is there a way to make this as minimal as possible, setting only to local or idk.. maybe a table of an fresh image users-groups control so I can base what to take changes on? I’ve searched a lot but they only say how to get full control against others saying that’s not recommended. Also my device health seems “unknown” in my account.

I use windows 10 pro with bitdefender on a recently install of windows from reset (installed like 10 softwares/apps max if even that) some concern of these questions is that bitdefender daily acuses updates to itself or windows defender, malicious url weirdly coming from windows sub domains, and even got some threats “took care”...

    Show Local users and Groups

Hello Frank, and welcome to Ten Forums. Managing owner, user, groups :)

If you have the Windows 10 Home edition, then it will not have Local Users and Groups (lusrmgr.msc) included in it. It's only available in the Pro and Enterprise editions instead.

If you like, you could use step 3 in OPTION THREE of the tutorial below list users in a group.

  3. Unknown User as Owner

Hi Bree, thanks for stepping up to address this issue.
As far as I know my External Drive has only been used on my PC.

I could try to implement your suggestion and take Ownership of those Folders.
The "Take Ownership" link is present in my right click menu, but I'm currently logged in with my Microsoft account, so perhaps it would be better if I went Properties --> Security --> Advanced & set the Owner to Administrators, no?!

Although my mind is bugged with a new question now.
If I change the Owner & later on I have to restore a backup (Acronis on a CD) won't I encounter problems then?

Dead Storage I Cant Delete (Windows 10)

    Hi Max,

I suggest you to take ownership of the file and delete it.

    • Right click the folder you want to gain access to and choose Properties.
    • When Properties window opens, navigate to Security tab. In group or user name section you can see the list of users and groups on your computer that can access this folder.
    • Click the Advanced button.

    • When Advanced Security Settings windows opens check the
Owner section at the top. Click Change in order to change the owner of the folder.

    • Select User or Group window will now open. Click
Advanced. Optional: If you know the name of the group or the user, you can just enter it in the Enter the object name to select section and click Check Names and OK and skip to Step 8.

    • Click Find Now button and the list of all groups and users on your computer should appear in Search results.
    • Select the name or the group from the list and click OK. In our example we selected Users group, but you make to select a group or a user that you wish to assign ownership to.
    • Click OK again.

    • Check Replace owner on sub containers and objects to change the owner for all subfolders in this folder.
    • Click Apply and OK to save changes.
And for Windows update issues suggest to run the reset Windows update components and check if it helps.

Windows Update - Additional resources - Windows Deployment

    Hope it helps.
