Windows 10: Mandatory Windows 10 Home updates: The good, the bad, and the ugly

Discus and support Mandatory Windows 10 Home updates: The good, the bad, and the ugly in Windows 10 Support to solve the problem; You can block driver updates by following this. The Skye update is not a driver issue.. it's an app that MS tires to install as an optional upgrade. Discussion in 'Windows 10 Support' started by letmein, Jul 16, 2015.

  3. I like to have the important updates installed automatically - but I want to review optional updates.

Will Win10 allow Optional updates to be stopped/blocked (assuming they have Important and Optional as separate components)?

I have always downloaded and installed all Windows updates and never had a problem.

  5. The problem is that it's not only Windows Updates, but driver and app updates that may not be wanted or buggy; although, as I said above, driver updates can be stopped.

The biggest problem, though, is 3rd party AV's, but that is another thread/another subject*Smile

It's not that Skype causes issues it's simply not wanted by some.. like me. So I removed it and hide the update in the future.

I'm with Cliff in that I have always installed everything thrown my way as an update. Can't say I can recall any problem of any consequence.

But, in saying that, if you get fed a driver that just doesn't work on your comp, you really do need to be able to hide it. I can see that.

But who has the time, energy, and knowledge to filter updates? Certainly, none of the people I support!

I wasn't talking about Skype specifically, I was talking about updates in general. Reading through 8 & 10 forums you'll se people wanting to hide updates a lot(usually optional) but I generally find that a bad idea, and people end up getting them anyhow when Microsoft changes the priority or has them included in a cumulative rollout. Hiding additional features I can understand.

  10. For me it all depends on whether they are updates or upgrades. I have no big issue with updates to fix issues. Security updates etc. If they are going upgrade something like the UI I may have issue with that. Depending on what the upgrade does to my system and how it functions afterward. Time will tell.
