Windows 10: Many Creators Upgrade Problems?

So far, so good*Cool Only thing that bothers me is Windows Defender, so I turned it off.

 

This depends on your expectation as well, I upgraded 3 pc
with fresh install and then with upgrade assistant and I found
behaviour that I consider "problems" and you may not...

Fresh install:
Programs indexing does not work (on 3 different PC)

Upgrade with upgrade assistant:

Before the upgrade:

cortana off (gpedit allow cortana to disable)

web search off

default store app removed ( meteo, news etc...)

After the upgrade:

Al apps restored all my settings reset

Cortana alive and Kiking (gpedit is reverted to allow cortana "yes")

web search active, despite the fact that it's set to not search
for web results in gpedit, I'll try to be more clear because of my english
is not so good:

gpedit settings (i'm translating so it may not be the exact sentence in
english version of gpedit, but I think the meaning is what matters)

search - do not allow web search set to ACTIVE
search - do not search the web and do not display web results set to ACTIVE

with this gpedit settings I was getting search result and performing web search
using the search/cortana function (win key and type...)

I sure was able to reopen gpedit and reset the three settings,
reboot and all was back to normal, but i find a bit stresful
to chek all the settings for any update.

Maybe you enjoy cortana, web search, and the app i disable
(and do not get me wrong, I think they are legit services,
that could be useful, they simply are not useful to me ...)
so you will not have the problems i'm facing...

so is something seriously wrong with my computers?

Anybody had an issue with Cortana live tile not working after installing the update?

I fail to see any insults *Smile

 

The RestoreHealth (option of DISM) does'nt work in none of my three computers after Creator's update.
I mean these ones
"DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth" or
" DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:E:\sources\install.wim" (did with ESD too)
I'd like to ask to all the happy people in this thread if they have'nt this problem or I'm alone in the universe

My minor problem is that msn home screen only has black squares and no pictures when using IE. Everything seems ok using Edge. Strange.

 

You got to use Edge, put it in your head.

 

I have it and sadly I'm not happy at all with this new
Windows 10 upgrade policy, I like Win 10 interface,
I think it's even better than win 7 interface.
They (Microsoft) put very useful feature (to me)
like "virtual desktop" and File History, but you dont have
to be to mutch happy so they put in little annoying quirks
like a search engine that search only what they whant you
to search for

Forced upgrades is another problem:

yes I am now forced to upgrade to windows 10-1703 this
is simply a fact.

I know for a fact that I am a guinea pig
and my machines are used to test new OS features,
this is not a rant I've not decided if i'm OK with this yet..

 

Just the opposite for me. I have to use IE, because of no pictures on the home screen in Edge. Been that way since Ver. 1604.

 

So far I only have minor issues, warnings mostly. I have been using Chrome with occasional freezing. I have 2006 Toshiba Laptop that came loaded with Vista. *Smile

 

JPEG files turned in to "Photos", and no icon show up at file, only at hoover. Switched back to Windows Photo Viewer.

For me, upgrade was smooth... I used the Update Assistant... however, while everything was great, and I was loving the new options (like lettng windows to empty your temp folder from time to time automatically)... I had to revert back, because one of my programs and the most important of all, didn't work properly... seems, as far as I read, that we need manufacturers like AMD or Nvidia to upgrade their VGA drivers to WDM2.2... otherwise you get a lot of issues.

In my case, Clip Studio seems to not work in this upgrade, lags horribly, specially with zoom operations... weird enough, Photoshop runs smooth... but, since the first is my main program, I had to revert back to 1511 after trying even the latest whql drivers from AMD (I avoid betas...)

But, honestly, I got to say that the experience about upgrading and reverting back was completely clean and smooth, Microsoft is doing a good job keeping this processes straight and stable, as I said, I even returned to 1511 after the upgrade, and all my stuff is back to normal, not even a single file loss... nothing.

 

Yes I have upgraded 2 workstations and one notebook, with few issues. The ones that I had were my fault for not paying attention. By far the least issues I have had with a major upgrade in a while.

 

Frankly, I'm not sure I could notice only a 2 or 3x slowdown on my system. It boots to start screen in 3-5 seconds. It would probably have to be 10x or more for me to really notice.

Obviously the problem is not with chkdsk because most people have no problem with it. More than likely, it's a problem with the upgrade itself, or a corrupted system before the upgrade (sometimes hidden malware causes upgrade problems).
