  2. I wonder why at this point that XP is inching upwards? It seems those that were destined to stick with it, have already done so. Hard to interpret the sudden rise.

Windows File Sharing Not Working in Windows 10

Thanks for the questions. First, no changes and File sharing worked well between PC number one and XP and PC Number One in Window 7 (PC Number one had W7 originally)...I swapped out the OLD XP and am now using another PC with an upgrade FROM W7...and both
    W7 computers worked flawlessly.

I prefer Ethernet Sharing for two reasons:

    1. I am not pushing Files and Folders into the Cloud which are very private.

    2. I do not need the Internet to share files and folders (If I am off-line, In my RV without the internet.

Hands down, Ethernet Port sharing of private data is safer but of course, nothing is perfect. I do however ultimately Encrypt all FILES and folders in archives.

I do not use Onedrive or Google Drive other than for saving download APPS/ programs which are there so I can save Hard disk drive space...such as TTAX and Quicken Programs which I save in the Cloud and then share across platforms.

  5. Agreed.

The only thing I can think of is that maybe there are a lot of XP installs (real and/or virtual) that are only occasionally connected to the Internet.
However I'm not sure why they'd be connected one month and not the next.

    There were some updates for:

    • XP earlier this year, but I haven't heard of any recently
    • Earlier versions of Office, so maybe those machines were turned on to get those

I occasionally connect my XP machines (real and virtual) to get software updates (especially AV).
