Windows 10: Massive lag after windows update and resetting PC

Hi,


I have a mid-high end custom gaming PC (about 2 years old) that has been running fine up until a recent forced windows 10 update

I get severe lag, yet Task Manager shows nothing wrong. Malwarebytes didn't detect anything wrong either.


I struggle to get anything done now


So I reset my PC using the windows tool and the problem remains, still no task manager issues and no malware detected


I believe it to be some kind of windows issue

Random lag spikes

Hi,

We would like to know more about your lag issue:

• What browser are you using when you experience a lag?
• Does the lag occur in a particular game?

In the meantime, we suggest you run the System Maintenance troubleshooter. Here are the steps:

• Press Windows Key + X.
• Click on Control Panel.
• Select Troubleshooting.
• On the left pane, click on View All.
• Click on System Maintenance to run the troubleshooter.

Windows 10 update causes massive lag and chugging

We apologize for the late reply. There are multiple possibilities why you're experiencing lag. Based on the on the information that you have provided, it could that the memory usage is spiking. With that, I suggest you check the memory usage in Task Manager
so that we will know what processes or apps are eating up the memory. Here's how:

1. Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete, and then select Task Manager.
2. In Task Manager, select More details > the Performance tab >
   Memory.

Also provide us a screenshot of your System information. Here is how to get to your System information: From Windows Explorer's left pane, right click on "This
PC" and click Properties. You can also type "msinfo" in the Start search section.

If you are using a Solid State Drive, I suggest that you perform these steps as an initial troubleshooting steps:

1. In Search tab of the Start menu, type "Adjust the appearance and performance of windows" and press
   Enter.
2. Go to Advanced tab and click Change... button in the
   Virtual memory section.
3. At the top, uncheck the box right before "Automatically manage paging file size for all drives" option.
4. Select drive C: (or the drive where Windows 10 is installed).
5. Select Custom size: by ticking its radio button, and change the
   Initial size (MB) and Maximum size (MB) to the Recommended value that you will find just below the
   Total paging file size for all drivers section.

This method will help improve the system performance of Windows 10, and will gradually decrease the freeze issues.

Remember: Changing paging file size into larger than which was recommended by Windows is not going to be helpful.

Windows 10 fails to update


When you finish testing the Avast suggestion, make sure that you restart your machine.

Then if the issue persists, please return to the trouble shooting list in post# 89

I think there are three steps that remain; the WU troubleshooter, reset WU components, and manual WU reset.
