Windows 10: May 2004 fails with Erroe: 0xc1900223

I have good, up to date Macrium backups. I have WinAero installed and used it to disable driver updates. I also use a 3rd party HOSTS file.

Yesterday I was offered the 2004 Feature Update, which failed at 96% of "Getting Things Ready", with the error: 0xc1900223.

So... I restored from the latest backup, removed the 3rd party HOSTS file, and set WinAero to allow driver updates.
After the restore from backup... I was again offered the May 2004 Feature Update, and it failed again... same error.

I clicked Try Again, and it just did a check for regular updates, and gave me a green check mark and said I was up to date. No errors.



I'm assuming there was some compatibility issue other than the 3rd party HOSTS file and the disabled driver updates.

I've tweaked a lot of things in Windows 10, but I can't think of anything that would qualify as incompatible.



The only other things I can think of would be MBR disk or Bitdefender Internet Security 2020.











After some Googling of the error, I assume that Microsoft will tweak some things and then someday offer me the May 2004 Feature Update again?

I have just reinstalled Windows, I had problems with updates before and though the fresh install would help but I am still getting errors.

Feature update to Windows 10, version 1903 -Error 0xc1900223

My windows is activated.

As for getting MCT to run on your machines, I showed in post #6 a screenshot of it running on mine.

In post #18 I suggested troubleshooting steps to get the MCT to run, and if that failed a way to split up an install.wim that's larger than 4GB.

 

Windows 10 fails to update


When you finish testing the Avast suggestion, make sure that you restart your machine.

Then if the issue persists, please return to the trouble shooting list in post# 89

I think there are three steps that remain; the WU troubleshooter, reset WU components, and manual WU reset.
