Windows 10: MBR/GPT

How do I convert a MBR 7200 RPM HDD to GPT so I can install 64bit Win 10 Home?


I have a 2014 HP All-in - One I had upgraded to an SSD - two years later it failed (about 3 weeks ago. I bought a new SSD - It was a 3D Nand(?) drive. It worked for 2 days. then started getting freezes, screen flashes and a notice to say I could not use a screensaver as my PC is not 3D capable.


So I purchased a 7200 RPM HDD. Now it can't take Win 10 Home 64bit without the GPT disk.


Would use the Win 10 Home 32bit, but it will not recognize more than 4 MB of ram - I have 16.


Ideas please.


This is on a NEW 7 day old PD - Win10 Home 64bit - but it is a piece of junk. want to return it!! - 6 days left in return window.


Also, I am one of the first 30 days of Win 10 users. It worked back then - why not now??

1. You cannot convert mbr to gpt without data loss. otherwise, you can follow directions here:

FROM WINDOWS RECOVERY CONSOLE:

To change a master boot record disk into a GUID partition table disk using a command line

• 
  Back up or move the data on the basic master boot record (MBR) disk you want to convert into a GUID partition table (GPT) disk.
  
• 
  Open an elevated command prompt (right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as Administrator) and type diskpart. If the disk does not contain any partitions or volumes, skip to step 6.
  
• 
  At the DISKPART prompt, type list disk. Make note of the disk number you want to convert.
  
• 
  At the DISKPART prompt, type select disk <disknumber>.
  
• 
  At the DISKPART prompt, type clean.
  

2. I'd suggest converting your vista drive to a virtual machine, load that up on your windows 10 system and use a program like virtualbox to run it.
