I still would suggest in taking a clean image backup before ever installing this type of stuff -- you probably spent a lot longer fixing the problem than a 15 - 20 min restore would have taken although I'm sure you learned some useful stuff during your work.

I don't really like 3rd party uninstallers etc -- if you have to use these it says to me that the original software should be avoided at all costs --the standard OS should be more than capable of looking after its own Registry and uninstalling unwanted software.

Nothing against REVO uninstaller --probably one of the better offerings out there - but IMO i'd prefer to keep my system clean of these sorts of programs.

With W10 especially still being essentially an "On Going" development you can't really assume that all these sorts of programs --particularly AV programs will continue to work with each W10 update -- that's why I prefer to rely on Windows defender plus My Own Brain - apart from a bit of ransomware doing the rounds these days and that's easily fixed via simple clean image restore you are more likely to get caught via a scam rather than by any "malfarious or evil" software.

Most of those AV companies (note here I'm referring to HOME / Consumer market) are still living in late 20th cent when Viruses etc were a big thing. These hackers have moved on to much more profitable things which are harder to guard against and above all are moving en-masse trying to break into your Mobile phones which is where you need to concentrate your AV protection.

YMMV of course - and a load of people from security I.T consultants to salespeople have a vested interest in this of course --but ask yourself - when was the last time you or anybody you know got into a mega virus problem with a HOME (not corporate) computer.

I say HOME because people are still out there planning attacks on Corporate machines from Denial of Service to ransomware etc.

Also my remarks are directed only at HOME computer users --if you are running commercial services such as e-commerce, or publicly available web servers / Forums etc etc then you will need to protect against all sorts of malicious attacks that a home user will probably in their entire computing lifetime never encounter.
