    Messed up desktop on resume from sleep/startup


    I'm trying to help a friend with an odd ongoing issue. When waking up the computer after it has been a sleep for a while, the desktop come up looking extremely messed up -- it's like there are two of the same desktop icons stacked on each other but slightly offset, and the taskbar is showing the volume and power icons on both sides, with no start button or anything. It will fix itself with a reboot from the ctl-alt-del screen, but that's an annoying thing to have to do all of the time. Has anyone seen anything like this or have any ideas? I've seen a few posts with display issues when resuming from sleep, but didn't see anything quite like what I'm seeing on their computer.

    Win7 Pro Laptop crashes when resumes from sleep

    Ok almost positive it related to the wifi card/driver. If I disable it in the device manager my laptop sleeps and resumes just fine.

    So I guess first step would to be try to find a different driver and if that doesnt work I guess I can replace it. Used mini pci-e wifi cards are pretty cheap.

    desktop hangs when resuming from sleep

    Since upgrading to Win 10 from 8.1, Dell Inspiron 530 Desktop "hangs" when resuming from sleep.

    Doesn't matter if I manually initiate sleep mode or if the power plan initiates sleep mode.

    When in process of resuming from sleep the Computer Fan comes on and does not go off, monitors continue to appear sleeping.

    Nothing else happens, the computer continues in this state until manually powered down.

    I can't find anything in event viewer that indicates the cause.

    Please advise.

    Hi Tyler,

    Disabling some of the startup programs normally aids a slow response time when resuming from sleep mode. The concern you're experiencing may continue to happen due to some incorrect power settings. Aside from the steps mentioned above, may we know the specific
    procedures that you have tried to rectify the issue? You can also indicate other changes made on your device before this issue occurred.
