Windows 10: Metered wifi and bluetooth

What is the connection between metered wifi and bluetooth. When my wifi is metered, I get message as shown in pic below.

I had the same problem not being able to connect a bluetooth speaker to my laptop while on a metered WiFi connection. The way I solved this problem was relatively easy. I temporarily set the WiFi connection as not being metered, just for a few seconds in
order to allow the bluetooth connection to be esatblished, and then put my WiFi connection back to being metered. My bluetooth connection kept alive even after setting the WiFi connection back to being metered.

I agree with other commenters in considering very inconveniencing the fact that in Windows 10 (excluding W10 Professional) one has to set the connection to being metered in order to stop unwanted or incorrectly scheduled Windows updates, particolarly on
metered connections.

Thanks, Sandro for your easy solution. Worked perfectly and was far more practical than those offered up by Microsoft.

 

I also get sometimes the same message, but Devices are working , even with that "incomplete" setup. It happens when you "Pair" a Device and you have setup the Internet Connection as "Metered", so Windows is not connecting to the Internet.

 

It's not just Bluetooth that's affected this way, it's all connected devices - and that's where the solution is to be found. Look in: Settings / Devices / Connected devices. Here you can tell Windows to use a metered connection to get the info/drivers/whatever that it needs to complete the setup. Here's the 'before' and 'after' for my SmartTV, though it worked perfectly well in both cases. The same should work apply to your Bluetooth devices.

 

I don't get bluetooth device here.

 

You don't get Bluetooth listed here, but this setting should apply to all connected devices including Bluetooth. Try turning it on then go to the Bluetooth page to see if it has worked.

Wow - Thank you Bree for posting this! I've been searching for a fix to this since the "setup incomplete because of a metered connection" error started showing up for my Bluetooth headphone and was as not able to find a solution until finding your post with a clearly explained solution.
I had come across the Settings/Devices /Connected devices page, but since my headphone wasn't listed there I skipped making the change, and of course, there was no option under Settings / Devices /Bluetooth to make the change. It was non-intuitive (at least to me, and apparently the OP, Ivgandhi) until you pointed out that changing the setting under Connected devices should apply to all connected devices including Bluetooth even if the weren't listed.
