  1. Microphone Bug

    Hello,

I have something weird going on with windows 10 and my microphone for my Logitech webcam. My Logitech webcam has always worked for quite some time and has been reliable. The last time I used it was earlier this year for my college courses. I didn't use it during the summer, but there were a few updates on my desktop during the time and I didn't have my webcam plugged in. I plugged it in to do my homework for this semester and it is doing something weird....

    the Problem:

My microphone for my webcam is constantly running and repeating everything that it hears through my speakers. While it is doing this, the sound is higher pitched and sounds like it is playing through an oscillating fan, so basically it is distorted. If I restart my computer with the webcam plugged in, it will repeat the audio it hears, before it even presents the Microsoft start-up login screen and lets me sign in. When I go to use the webcam on either Skype or Zoom it tells me that I cant use my Microphone, because it is being used by something else. That something else, is the program that keeps on using my webcam to repeat distorted sounds as stated earlier. The only thing that has changed with my computer has been updating the windows version the couple or few times over the summer.

    Things I've tried:

~Skype for Business keeps starting itself after I thought it was the original and opened it. I had believed this was the reason at first to my problem. I tried disabling it for start-up, but it continues to auto-start and run in the background. I tried uninstalling it, but it wont let me. I opened source and deleted the one item that it pointed to as the source. I still feel that it is running, but don't want to start going on a deleting rampage and accidentally delete other important files for other things on my computer.

~I've tried deleting and reinstalling the drivers for my webcam in the device manager.

~I have tried playing with many if not all of the settings for the microphone under "Sounds" and then "Recording"[devices]

~ I tried force closing (specifically); cortana, steam, and Skype for business with no success. (I closed as many as I found of the processes labeled as those 3 things mentioned, I'm not sure if there are other programs that are labeled as something else that are in cahoots with those mentioned processes)

So, I currently am in a bind, I already missed some assignments for my 3 classes that require me to have a functioning webcam that we will be using regularly. If there is someone that could help me out as soon as possible I would be forever grateful, because this problem is currently hurting my grades and my success in my class.

Any help would be appreciated. Thankyou.

    :)

    Microphone Bug

    Microphone issues

    Hi Michael,

Here are the possible reasons why you're getting an error "The microphone did not pick anything up" when using it:

    • Incorrect settings (microphone is not set as default device)
    • Corrupted or outdated driver
    • Faulty device

For us to isolate the issue, we'd like to know the following:

    • Were there any changes made to your computer prior to this issue(e.g. Windows updates)?
    • Have you tried connecting other microphone to your computer?
    • Have you tried connecting the microphone to the other computer?

In the meantime, we suggest running the Recording Audio Troubleshooter to find and repair problems with recording sound. We also suggest checking if your microphone is set as your default recording device. For troubleshooting steps, please see
    Geethu B's on this
    link.

We're looking forward to your reply.
