Windows 10: Microphone does not work although properly installed and set up

I'm trying to use the microphone of my Logitech Quickcan 3000 webcam for Skype video calls.


The drivers have been properly installed, I've confirmed this through the device manager and the sound control panel: on the Recording tab, the QuickCam 3000 has a green checkmark and is the default device.


I've ensured that the Skype app has permission to use the microphone: in the microphone privacy settings, "Allow apps to access your microphone" is turned on, and permission for Skype is also turned on.


In Skype, when I go to Settings > Audio and Video, the microphone input "LED meter" does not show any peaks when I make noises directly in front of the webcam.


In the Windows settings, when I go to Sound, in the section Input, the input meter below "Test your microphone" is grayed out and does not show any peaks when I make noises in front of the webcam.


The microphon icon in the system tray that indicates an app is using the microphone is shown when I'm in the Windows sound settings. Its tool tip says "Settings is using your microphone".


When I click the Troubleshoot button and select the webcam's microphone, I get the message: "Troubleshoot couldn't identify the problem".


When I use another device, it is the exact same problem, which indicates that this is not an issue with the webcam's microphone. I have tried it with a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 external sound device with a microphone connected to it through XLR jack.


Could this be some malware that has taken control of my sound input, or something simpler? I've searched for solutions online for hours and couldn't find anything.

Microphone not working properly after upgrade to 1803

After upgrade to 1803 my microphone is not working properly. I googeld and found many times this answer:

1. Hit Windows key and search for "microphone privacy settings"
2. Hit "Allow access to the microphone on this device"
3. Switch "Allow apps to access your microphone" to ON

Among the apps that are showing is Edge. There the mike is working, but on chrome and my games microphone is not working

 

Microphone not working properly after upgrade to 1803

I had the same issue when I upgraded to 1803 on the Insider Program. I tried everything, the privacy settings. I even removed the driver and software. Reinstalled drivers and software, same problem.

I know this is probably not a solution you want to hear, but I clean installed the April update using the MCT. I booted to the USB flash drive it created and installed from there. Now my microphone works properly.

Normally in a situation like this, some would suggest a repair install. You can try this if you do not feel like clean installing.

Hopefully someone else will have another suggestion before you have to resort to this.

I suggest you to follow the steps below and check if it helps

Method 1: I suggest you to set microphone as default device and check.

• 
  Right click on the volume icon in the system tray and then click "Recording devices"
  
• 
  Right click on the blank space in the popped up window and then select "Show Disabled Devices" and "Show Disconnected Devices".
  
• 
  Right click on Microphone and then click "Enable".
  
• 
  Highlight the microphone and then choose "Set as Default Device".
  
• 
  Click Apply and OK.
  

Step 2: Make sure that the Microphone is not disabled.

  Make sure that the Microphone is not disabled. Follow the steps given to check that:
  
• 
  Right click on the volume icon and select “Recording devices”.
  
• 
  Now, Right Click on an empty space and select, “Show disconnected devices” and “Show disabled devices”.
  
• 
  Make sure that the Microphone is not disabled.
  

And also update the audio drivers from the manufacturer web site and install.
