Windows 10: Microphone keeps un-muting itself

I keep a microphone on my desk, plugged into the 1/8" jack on the back of my Dell tower. Every day I mute it, because it picks up ambient noise and repeats it through my headphones while I'm listening to music/et.c at work. Every time I come back to it, watching a video, listening to music, it's become un-muted.


Every morning.

Every time I stop using something that plays audio, and then later start using the headphone audio again.


I'm using a USB DAC/headphone amp to power my earphones.


This is really annoying.


How can I set this setting and keep it set until I actually need it (which is only about once a week).


I'm not unplugging it until such time as I need it, that's entirely un-necessary.

microphone mutes itself


When i go into properties the mike is muted. When I unmute it works for less than a minute then mutes again. The only suggestion I have found is set as default device which does not solve problem. I have also read it is a virus but I cannot solve with malware or virus scans. It first became a problem just a few weeks ago while skyping. Never had a problem with mike until then.

Troubleshooter finds the microphone muted and fixes, Within a minute the microphone mutes itself again.

Microphone keeps being muted.

I have a Dell Inspiron all-in-one desktop. Microphone keeps being muted and I cannot skype until I go into Dell Audio and in mute it. But that lasts for only a short time and it gets muted again. Cannot load Windows 10 microphone troubleshooter for
some unknown reason. Must be some kind of resource allocation problem ?
