Windows 10: Microphone not working

All of a sudden my microphone stopped working, three different headsets and the built-in mic. When I try to "Set up Microphone" under the Speech Recognition page, I get a warning:


The Wizard Would Not Start



Make sure your audio hardware is working properly

and check your audio configuration in the Audio

Devices and Sound Themes (?) control panel.


The question mark is my addition since it does not seem to make any sense in this instance, but the Audio Devices, Device Manager, and Sound Settings tab all show that the device is working properly. I am at a complete loss. If this were a problem on only one device, then it would be a simple fix. But three separate and distinct headset microphones (1. Microsoft LifeChat LX-3000, 2. Logitech H600 Wireless, and 3. A Turtle Beach Recon 50P) all having the same problem seems like more than a coincidence.


BTW, when I choose to "listen to this device" in the settings tab, using the headset speakers, the mic works fine, but no one else can hear me, Live chat, game rooms, whatever.

Built in microphone not working

I understand your concern and will assist you to resolve this issue.

I suggest you to follow the steps below and check if it helps

Method 1: I suggest you to set microphone as default device and check.

• 
  Right click on the volume icon in the system tray and then click "Recording devices"
  
• 
  Right click on the blank space in the popped up window and then select "Show Disabled Devices" and "Show Disconnected Devices".
  
• 
  Right click on Microphone and then click "Enable".
  
• 
  Highlight the microphone and then choose "Set as Default Device".
  
• 
  Click Apply and OK.
  

Step 2: Make sure that the Microphone is not disabled.

  Make sure that the Microphone is not disabled. Follow the steps given to check that:
  
• 
  Right click on the volume icon and select “Recording devices”.
  
• 
  Now, Right Click on an empty space and select, “Show disconnected devices” and “Show disabled devices”.
  
• 
  Make sure that the Microphone is not disabled.
  

And also update the audio drivers from the manufacturer web site and install.

I suggest you to run the microphone troubleshooter by following the steps below:

• Type “Troubleshooter” in the search box and press Enter.
• Click on ‘View All’ on the top left corner.
• Click on “Recording Audio” from the list and follow the prompts for troubleshooting.

Microphone suddenly stopped working

My microphone is still not working. I even checked the BIOS as someone had suggested but there is no listing for the microphone in there.
