Windows 10: Microphone "Unplugged" since April 2018 update.

Since the april update windows has not been detecting my microphone, I rolled back the update several times but it kept reinstalling despite me taking steps that I thought would block it. Now I have had the update for more than 10 days and am unable to roll back so I need to fix the issue.

My sound card's drivers are up to date.

I have tried troubleshooting recording audio - It just tells me the mic is unplugged.

It's not the new privacy setting they added, I have allowed apps to access the microphone.


Windows is simply telling me that the mic is not plugged in even though it is and i just don't know what to do anymore.

Windows 10 April 2018 Update(SCU) Partially Breaks MKV File Support?

I updated to main computer to the April 2018 Update, AKA Spring Creators Update, and it seems like they've taken a step backward with MKV file support. When I go into the properties of an MKV file on the Fall Creators Update, if I go to the details tab it gives me a bunch of detail about he media file, like resolution, framerate, audio information and bitrate. However, if I go into the same file's properties on the April 2018 Update, almost all of the information is blank, it only gives me a runtime and bitrate.

I really just want to confirm that this isn't just my computer and other's are experiencing the same thing.

Win 10 after April update no longer detects Microphone on line-in

just got the big April update on my laptop (AlienWare), and line-in headsets no longer work.
I tried

1. Bose QuietComfort 25
   
2. Samsung EHS64 Stereo Headset
   
3. Condenser Microphone, SF-666, not a headset, but I tested, for Science!
   

When I run troubleshooting on 'Input Devices' and select 'Line In', I get told that the microphone or headset is unplugged. This is simply wrong, both headsets worked fine up to the minute that I had to restart my machine because of the update.

I have tried

1. Update the Realtech driver, and reboot -> Nothing
   
2. Remove the Realtech driver, and reboot -> Nothing (though driver did get re-installed)
   
3. Checked the privacy settings per windowscentral.com -> Everything was fine (I can use the laptop microphone fine, but that's a crappy microphone)
   
4. Checked , but my 'Line In' is active, it just does not detect that I plugged in
   
   
   
   
5. Used a USB headset, this works fine
   
6. Remove the Realtech driver (checking 'delete'), and reboot -> Nothing (though driver did get re-installed)
   
7. Checked with the "AlienWare Update" tool, everything is up to date.
   
8. Removed every single audio driver (checking 'delete'), and reboot -> Nothing (though most drivers got re-installed)
   

To be sure, yes, I do click on Headset (with Microphone) when I plug my headset.

Steps to follow to solve problems with the microphone in Windows 10 April 2018 Update

The first thing we are going to do is open the Windows 10 Configuration page and navigate through the Privacy> Microphone options. Once there, we must make sure that the switch of the option Allow applications to access the microphone is in the ON position.
If not, we must activate it.

Just below this option, we will see a list of applications that can access the microphone of our team and from where we can control the access to the device of each of them individually. Therefore, for each application we have a switch with which we can indicate
if we want to use the microphone of the equipment or not. In this list, we must check if the switch of the applications in which we have detected that the microphone does not work is in the ON position.

It is important to know that if access to the microphone on our computer is disabled, we will not be able to manage the microphone access permissions for the applications individually. If we find this case, then we must allow the operating system to access
the microphone.

To do this, from the configuration page of Windows 10 April 2018 Update we go back to Privacy> Microphone and verify if the access to the microphone for this device is activated. If not, click on the Change button a small window will open with a switch that
allows us to activate access to the microphone on our PC. After all this, we should check how the problems with the microphone in Windows 10 April 2018 Update have been fixed.
