Windows 10: Microphone volume is low

I'm on the latest version of Win10, I have a Soundblaster Z sound card with the latest drivers, a Lenovo WMR headset and an Nvidia 1070, I think that covers all the potential audio devices on the system.

Recently I found that my microphone volume was really quiet. I was using the beam forming microphone that came with my sound card which I assumed would be pretty good. I fiddled around with a lot of settings in the Soundblaster control panel but even with microphone input volume at maximum and boost at 30dB I still needed to have the microphone close to me to be heard but audio quality suffered because of the boost.

So I bought a Shure MV5 for £85 because I assumed the tiny mic that came with the sound card was the problem. Well, I'm having the same experience with this microphone even though it connects via USB. But now, I can only set the volume to maximum and there is no boost option. So it's even quieter than the cheap mic.

I don't appear to be the only person who has had issues with low microphone volume but no one seems to have a solution. It's as if Windows is globally limiting all input volumes but it's not making that setting visible. I've tried one applicable solution to uncheck a setting regarding reducing volume when making calls but it made no difference.

As an example, if I go into the microphone setup wizard in Windows, it asks me to read out a phrase and it shows your level as you speak. My voice doesn't make it out of the tiny yellow section at the start of the bar.

Unfortunately I don't have anything else I can plug the Shure microphone into to make sure that it's not the same there at it is on my pc.

Anybody have any ideas? I think I'll try unplugging the wmr headset to see if that makes any difference.

My microphone volume is very low

My microphone volume is very low so no one can hear me i tried but volume is still low and they can't hear me properly

 

laptop microphone pickup - very low volume since update

Laptop microphone output volume is VERY low since Windows 10 update that I installed 6/10/20. No other changes. Zoom app (and microphone test through Windows) can barely pick up my voice. Noted that drivers for Intel Smart Sound Technology were updated
in this build. (Volume set at 100%) Any suggestions?

See my responses below. Basically I have already tried everything you suggested prior to me making this post. Also I don't understand why a cheap clip-on mic is working while my condenser mic isn't.
